"You did well, very well. But every film has an ending, and this here is yours!"
— The Rabbit, taunting Cash

The White Rabbit is an antagonistic character and minor antagonist in Manhunt. His corpse (or someone else wearing his costume) can also be found in Manhunt 2 as an Easter egg.

Description[]

The White Rabbit is the nickname or a pseudonym given to a man who is dressed up in a bunny suit and a recurring star in Lionel Starkweather's snuff films. The White Rabbit's specialty seems to be luring people into traps for them to be ambushed and killed, as seen with James Earl Cash in Kill the Rabbit.

Going by his dialogue, the White Rabbit might not be insane, as opposed to the Smileys that appear near him. However, given the circumstances that he was one of Starkweather's top performers, that is hardly the case. Lines such as "This wasn't the deal!" could mean that Starkweather intended the White Rabbit to be kept alive and he signed a contract, only for Cash to kill him, while the White Rabbit may have thought that Starkweather himself betrayed him.

Personality[]

The White Rabbit tends to act very cocky, sadistic, and taunts Cash a lot. However, he gets very scared when Cash goes after him and will sometimes even beg for mercy, similar to Starkweather or even cry "Mommy!". If Cash surprises and aims a firearm at him, he will put his hands up in surrender. However, he will quickly defend himself when he is carrying a weapon. Whether he died in disgrace or not is up to the player.

Manhunt White Rabbit Quotes

Biography[]

Before Manhunt[]

The White Rabbit was hired by Starkweather at some point to be his leading man, and starred in two films: White Rabbits Down The Hole and Here, Bunny, Bunny, Bunny, similar to Piggsy and Ramirez, assuming he was one of Starkweather's top performers.

Events of Manhunt[]

As James Earl Cash nears the end of his time as a snuff film star, the White Rabbit shows up and Cash is instructed to follow him, being referred to as a "big, ugly Alice" by Starkweather.

The rabbit leads Cash into several traps where he gets ambushed by the Smileys, but Cash always manages to survive. Cash himself then continues to follow the rabbit into a workshop room where Starkweather has planned for Cash to die and give the Rabbit all the credit, also claiming the audience will love him.

Cash eventually kills all the ambushers, then heads outside the prison. The White Rabbit is shocked to see Cash is still alive, thus he runs away again before saying he has the key to escape the Darkwoods Penitentiary and Cash pursues him once more.

Outside, three Cerberus guards are seen patrolling the guard tower where the Rabbit hides himself. Cash then takes them out and makes his way up to the guard tower. Up here, White Rabbit has armed himself with a Shotgun and is accompanied by another Cerberus guard carrying a Sniper Rifle. Cash kills this Cerberus member and finally the White Rabbit himself, and takes the key he was holding to exit the prison.

If the White Rabbit falls in the ground due low health, sometimes he may tell Cash to "just take the damn key", seemingly surrendering. However, the player cannot actually get the prison key and spare his life, and therefore must be killed. This was either scripted, or made to show just how much Cash wanted to kill the White Rabbit for leading him into several traps (plus attacking him) and get his revenge on Starkweather for the death of his family members, making it an eye for an eye situation.

Events of Manhunt 2[]

During Broadcast Interrupted, inside the TV-MK studio, an actor dressed up in the same suit as the White Rabbit can be spotted hanging dead from a microphone cable in front of the Frankie and the Freaks decor, serving as an Easter Egg (no pun intended) to Manhunt. Whether this is the same snuff actor from the original game is unknown, though it is unlikely.

Trivia[]

  • The White Rabbit is a homage to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, as Starkweather calls Cash his "big, ugly Alice".
  • It can be assumed the White Rabbit was the current leader of the Smileys due to the fact Scarecrow (a scrapped antagonist) fell out of Lionel Starkweather's favor and left the gang, and he leads Cash through the final stages of the snuff film.
    • When idle long enough, the White Rabbit can be humorously seen hitting his head or doing rather maniacal actions in the same manner as the Smileys.
  • The mission Kill The Rabbit, where the White Rabbit exclusively appears, is likely a reference to Elmer Fudd's catch phrase in the classic Looney Tunes cartoon series, specifically the "What's Opera, Doc?" episode. Further implication is the humorous quote the Rabbit ushers which includes the words "wabbit".
  • He could possibly be inspired by the Bunny Man Bridge urban legend, which is a rumor that started in Fairfax County, Virginia, about an axe-wielding man in a rabbit costume who appears at a certain bridge around Halloween night to attack people.
  • As one of the antagonists of the game, the White Rabbit has significantly more health than regular Hunters, over twice as much, similar to Ramirez and the Cerberus Leader, making him able to withstand many hits. Despite this, a headshot with a Shotgun or Sniper Rifle, or a blow with the Super Punch cheat can still kill him instantly.
  • Completing Kill The Rabbit and Divided They Fall with a 5 star rating in each, will unlock a cheat called "Rabbit Skin" that overrides Cash's model with that of the White Rabbit.
  • The White Rabbit is the only character in the Manhunt series to appear in both games. However, his appearance in Manhunt 2 is simply just an Easter Egg.
