You could spend an entire day at the Retiro park. There are boats you can rent across from the Alfonso XII monument. Lots of places to sit and people watch many people bring picnics to the park. Our favorite thing to do was go to the pond by the Crystal Palace and feed the swans Luna and Lorenzo lettuce. They are picky but confirmed that they like a bag of lettuces.

What can you say, it’s the Prado ! Wonderful museum with beautiful art. The only down side is its popularity so the waiting lines can be long so buy your tickets online. With the audio guides, they provide a view of the museum with different time durations 1,2,3 … hour tours. For us after about 2 hours we were worn out but enjoyed the museum.

Also note that the rooms AND the exhibits are numbered so be clear what is being referenced.

Note: Check what is allow and not allowed in the museum before you go. We understood that water was not allowed so we emptied our water bottles before entering the museum but then our empty water bottles were not allowed to be taken in out bags and had to be checked in the coat room.

It’s all good none the less.

Definitely a must see if you’re in Madrid.

The prices are reasonable and the crowds can build up later in the day so make sure you give yourself time to go through security.

The palace itself is very large however the tour is just a small part of it but indeed fascinating. There are Audio Units available to narrate and staff is present throughout. Many are very friendly and can answer questions about the areas you are seeing if you ask.

Photography is only allowed in a very small part of the tour so be prepared to put your phone down and just enjoy the decor and artwork. You won’t be disappointed at all.
