While passing through the area, take a quick detour to visit the Ocmulgee Mounds.
There was plenty of parking spaces. There is a visitors center with a small museum that explains the mounds and native culture of the area. There were also bathrooms available. The walk to the mounds is on paved path and isn't very far to walk to the first mound that you can enter. You can then walk from the first mound to another larger mound if you like. Easy walking and not very far.

Was in Macon Georgia while my brother was in the hospital and needed a break. I grew up with the Allman Brithers in the 70's so it was a great stroll down memory lane. If you are an Allman Brothers fan or simply a rock and roll fan you will enjoy this place

We visited the Hay House on Easter weekend and had a great tour. For part of the tour it was just my husband and I and part way through another couple joined so it was very intimate.

The guide was very knowledgeable about the families who have lived there, the home itself and the surrounding area. They are restoring the home with rooms restored to different time periods.

We really enjoyed the tour, and paid the extra $5.00 to go to the very top of the home.

I wanted to see Peter Bracken’s tombstone with the train on it. He is an historical figure in Macon’s history.

Right next to the free parking at the Macon visitors center--this is a terrific place to start if you have a day to explore downtown Macon. The museum documents the history, struggles and achievements of African Americans. Friendliest person on the desk, ready to give us tips about other sites to visit. We caught them in mid-renovation, so we didn't get to see it all. A lot of this history does not get its due elsewhere. There are uncomfortable things to see, but we need to see them--and also beautiful and uplifting things, too.

Took my granddaughter to see the Nutcracker here and we loved it. Sat in one of the box seats above the stage and could see everything that was going on. She was enthralled with the show.

We went late in the day so the park was very quiet! But it was beautiful and a great place to relax and chill. There are a bunch of little play areas for kids and adults can have a great time with water-related activities.

This is a great sports Hall of Fame. It's always fun to see and learn about all the various athletes and their accomplishments. The admittance fee isn't a lot and there is free parking. There are also many interactive attractions.

Girls trip for Cherry Blossom festival. Cherry blossoms & Mother Nature had not agreed this year so we did miss a more abundant bloom year but still some spots to ogle! The Visitors center was offering tours for the festival in the mornings and afternoons. We did watch the film which had good suggestions for sites. The ladies were very helpful and friendly to help w the film. We made arrangements w Chris for an afternoon 1.5 hr tour along a route that would ordinarily have displayed the cherry blossoms when in full glory. Chris was a gem! He has all the passion and knowledge that an excellent tour guide should have! We were the last tour and his only guests so we asked a lot of questions and he never faltered w an answer. Very impressive. He was a wonderful storyteller spinning stories of old Macon families and the rich musical heritage as well. He told us about a special noon organ concert at the Mulberry Methodist church during festival week and we went there the following day. Some beautiful churches including the very visible beautiful Catholic Church. Chris did make our stay in Macon delightful and interesting. Impressive little town which I had never appreciated before. Highly recommend first stop at tourist center which is convenient w parking.
