Willie Hutch recorded and produced this soundtrack for the 1973 blaxploitation film The Mack. The film stars Max Julien as street pimp Goldie and Richard Pryor as his partner Slim. Although the film was not distributed to a large audience it is widely considered to be one of the best films in its genre.
The soundtrack was hugely successful and the tracks “Brother’s Gonna Work It Out” and “Slick” were hits on the R&B and pop charts.
The movie and its soundtrack has had a huge influence in hip hop culture. The album has been sampled by the likes of UGK, Dr.Dre, 2Pac, Big KRIT, Chance The Rapper and Cam'ron.
The film itself has been sampled or referenced by even more artists including Ludacris, Too $hort, Snoop Dogg, OutKast, Jay Z, Big L and Raekwon.
