Machine Gun Kelly has doubled down on his distaste for 1990s metalheads Slipknot, claiming a shady move from frontman Corey Taylor led to his verbal lashing of the band during Sunday’s Riot Fest in Chicago.
“corey did a verse for a song on tickets to my downfall album, it was f–king terrible, so i didn’t use it,” MGK, 31, tweeted Tuesday afternoon. “he got mad about it, and talked s–t to a magazine about the same album he was almost on. yalls stories are all off. just admit he’s bitter.”
Taylor responded via Twitter, sharing messages he claims are between the two from back in January 2020.
He confirmed that the pair worked on a song together, but couldn’t see eye to eye on the artistic direction of the track, choosing instead to back away from the feature.
“So I listened to the ideas and to be honest, I don’t think I’m the right guy for the track,” he responded to Kelly at the time, according to his tweets.
The rapper-turned-rocker’s claims that Taylor, 47, later disparaged his latest album — a departure from Kelly’s hip-hop roots — line up with comments the Slipknot artist made on the “Cutter’s Rockcast” podcast earlier this year, though he never mentioned the “Papercuts” singer by name.
“I [hate] the artists who failed in one genre and decided to go rock — and I think he knows who he is. But that’s another story,” Taylor said in February.
Sunday, both MGK and Slipknot were set to close out Riot Fest at the same time on different stages.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that while talking to fans who showed up to his set, MGK said, “Turn the lights up. Let me see who chose to be here instead of with all the old, weird dudes with masks.”
He later added, “Hey, you all know what I’m really happy that I’m not doing? Being 50 years old, wearing a f–kin’ weird mask on a f–kin’ stage.”
Slipknot, for their part, spent their set dishing out their classics and paying homage to their late founding drummer, Joey Jordison, who died in his sleep in July at age 46.
