Netflix adds 25 new movies and shows this week

It’s Thanksgiving week and while the holiday will look quite a bit different for a lot of people this year, we can still rely on Netflix to bring up plenty of new movies and shows to keep us occupied. Whether you’re looking for a few new Christmas movies and shows, a drama based on a popular book, or a new season of a Netflix Original series, the streaming service has a little something for everyone.

There are quite a few Christmas-themed shows and movies coming to Netflix this week including Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, and Sugar Rush Christmas season 2.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square stars the famous country singer, Christine Baranski, Treat Williams, and Jenifer Lewis. The movie follows Regina Fuller who has no time for holiday spirit in her life. She is a bit of a Scrooge and is selling her small town with no thought for how it will affect the people who live there. With Dolly Parton, this is a must-see. It comes to Netflix on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two is also coming to Netflix this week on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Kurt Russell is back as Santa Claus and Goldie Hawn is once again Mrs. Clause. Darby Camp is also back as Kate. This time a villain is dead set on canceling Christmas forever and Santa and Kate must team up to try and stop them. If you loved the first movie, you’re bound to enjoy this one as well.

If you’re more in the mood for a Christmas series that’s on the sweeter side, season 2 of Sugar Rush Christmas is definitely for you. It comes to Netflix on Friday, Nov. 27. Once again, bakers will compete against each other in holiday-themed challenges for a chance at the final prize. It’s all the chaos and stress of the holidays in one show and there’s cake. What more could you want?

If you’re not quite in the Christmas spirit, you might want to check out Ron Howard’s latest movie, Hillbilly Elegy when it hits Netflix on Tuesday, Nov. 24. It’s based on the book by J.D. Vance. It stars Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Haley Bennett, Freida Pinto, and Gabriel Basso and tells the story of a law student who is drawn back to his hometown in the Appalachian mountains. The book has been slammed for the way it looks at poor, working-class people so it will be interesting to see how the movie deals with that.

Looking for a series to watch the day after Thanksgiving? Season 2 of Virgin River comes to Netflix on Friday, Nov. 27. The show stars Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey, Martin Henderson, and Alexandra Breckenridge. It follows the story of a nurse who moves to Virgin River in northern California to become a midwife. What she doesn’t plan on is falling in love when she gets there.

This week also bring Hard Kill to Netflix on Monday, Nov. 23. The Bruce Willis action movie originally released in August in theaters and on demand but is now headed to Netflix.
