Are there any groups / spaces for 20-30s women in Macc? Are there any groups / spaces for 20-30s women in Macc?

I've moved from Manchester where there are events like Girls Who Walk and all venues like gyms and yoga classes are dominated by young people.

Wondering if anything similar in Macc / surrounding areas? Or gyms / classes that are more popular with young people?

Where can I find about things going on in the area e.g. Facebook groups etc? Hoping to meet some new people - I don't know anyone here!

Trying to identify a large abandoned building c.mid-'90s Trying to identify a large abandoned building c.mid-'90s

I just looked up what I thought it was - Parkside Hospital - but that closed in '97. The building we used to explore was derelict, and '97 would have been too late. I'd say '92-'95 would have been about when we were the right age, and it was already trashed, covered in graffiti, had broken floorboards, porn stashes etc.

Couldn't tell you whether it was medical, or a school, definitely not a home. Old Victorian building. It was in town (as in, not on the outskirts), possibly within a park, no security/fences that I can remember (or there was a hole so big we maybe missed the fence).

Any ideas?

Has anyone got any old photos of Macclesfield? Has anyone got any old photos of Macclesfield?

I saw a post someone made on r/exeter where they posted photos from the 70s to the 90s. Made me wonder if anyone had any past photos of Macclesfield knocking around?

Side note: if you've been to 'All Things Nice' (previously Coffee Traders) they have a photo of Chruch Street in town from (iirc) the 1920s. It was so nice to see such a distinct view of Macclesfield but from 100 years ago.

Walks from your doorstop Walks from your doorstop

Hi all,

I’m hoping to move to Macclesfield or Bollington next year. High on my list of priorities is access to great walks from my doorstep. Ideally, places with great views and where a dog can be comfortably off the lead - I.e sheep are secure in a field, away from main roads etc.

Any comments with info on areas within Macclesfield / Bollington that would be good for this would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you!!

Where to live in Macclesfield area Where to live in Macclesfield area

Hi All, My family and I are considering moving to the Macclesfield area. 2 kids. Budget is in the region of 800-900k. Proximity (within 10mins) to Kings School an advantage, as is the leisure centre Being able to run a safe (ideally off-road route) from the doorstep a big advantage. Also considering surrounding areas, but prefer having walkable amenities.

Which areas would you suggest looking at? Many thanks!

Diet culture research Diet culture research

Hello people of Macclesfield,

I grew up in Macclesfield and am now studying at the University of Leeds. I am conducting some research looking into the impact of diet culture (the pressure to be thin or muscular) on our body image.

If anyone is interested in participating you will need to:

- Be above the age of 16

- Have a smartphone (and the ability to download an app)

- Fill in an initial questionnaire (https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/leeds/impact-of-diet-culture-on-body-image) and then fill in daily surveys (5 mini surveys a day capturing your experiences) for one week.

You can win one of three love to shop vouchers (£100, £50 and £50) if you complete 80% of the surveys we send out!

Thanks in advance - don't hesitate to email me for further details.

Macclesfield to Salford - feasibility Macclesfield to Salford - feasibility

Hi all

About a month ago I had posted asking aboutthe feasibility of commuting from Macc to Manc twice a week.

Unfortunately I've been told I now would need to go in 3 times a week into the office. Needless to say this have thrown a spanner into the works.

I wanted to know if anyone does a similar 3 day commute or a 2 day commute ? I ask as I'm hoping to get some idea on the how easy or taxing it is money wise but also energy. Id have to commute to the offices outside Salford central and managed to find a parking place that is affordable.

I've looked into trains and it's 2.4k for an annual pass :( I could potentially get a seasonal and then do the 3rd day via car.

Thanks again for any advice!

Macc forest fire roads questions Macc forest fire roads questions

Hello, I am a mtber looking to enter a gravel race next year. Usually use those no entry fire roads when doing the down hill tracks to move across the forest between tracks and never seen any forestry workers. Thinking of taking a week day off just to check if I have the capacity to the do the race (frontier 300) but worried they will be working during the week and therefore won't be able to use the fire roads (because it woild be dangerous). Does anyone know if the works are full time on going and wether I will likely be unable to cycle there?

Buying a house in Macclesfield in a budget - Localities question Buying a house in Macclesfield in a budget - Localities question

Hello all, we are looking to buy a house in Macclesfield and have shortlisted some options based on preferences. One thing we aren't sure on are the neighborhoods in general. I know some have a historical reputation and I have seen some older posts on this sub,, but based on how they are as of today, what are the neighborhoods or areas you'd prefer for a family home and what are the ones you'd absolutely avoid at any cost?
