Sunday Worship Service, April 21, 2024 | Sunday Worship Service, April 21, 2024 This Sunday we will learn from the writings of David in the Book of Psalm 100. Where he expresses the love of God... | By Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church | Even when I don't see it you're working and even when I don't feel it you're working you you never stop working you never stop you never stop working even when I don't see it you're working He never stops working. If you would like, you can approach the altar. Um if you want to stay where you're at, that is fine too. But as those who want to come up here, make their way. Think about how he's made a way from you. From birth til now. Think about the way he's made for you. And you should have a hallelujah in your soul. You should have a thank you Jesus in your soul. You should give some honor and some praise because he's made a way and if your mind don't let you go back all the way to when you were born, just think about what he did for you last week. Think about what he did for you this week and if that's too far, think about what he did for you this morning. Did he make a way for you this morning? Did he wake you up? Did he give you activity of your limbs? Did he give you your right mind? Was everyone in your family doing well? He's made a way. He continues to make away. Most gracious and loving god, as we come to you today, lord. We thank you for this day, lord. So, I ask according to your will that you touch them and heal them according to your will, lord. God, I'm praying for this family among our god. I pray that you continue to strengthen god. So, they may distribute it to other and everyone that they come in contact god. God strengthen us. God, I ask that you comfort those that are grieving, god. It seems like death is more rampant than before, god. And it doesn't matter what age now, god. So, I ask god that you are comforting in those that are grieving god. Give them some type of wisdom and insight to let them know that it was all part of your plan, god. Yeah. That you are in control, god. And that you are going to carry em through that moment of grief, god. God, I ask that blessed the man of the hour god. I pray that you comfort him god. Give him strength, give him clarity, god. Again just want to be with you just want to be with you I want to be with you just want to be with you I just want to be just want to be with you with you. Yes, god. Just want to be I just want to be that with you just want to be just want to be with you to Pastor Daniels who we are praying with as he stands three times in Houston, Texas today and to you my Mount Olive family, thank you for this opportunity. One one three. Whether you've noticed it or not and you have children or grandchildren particularly, you've seen it everywhere. Psalm one, three. It's Andy's mom's license plate in toy store. Right. It's on a rat's ear and ratatouille. It's a door number in monsters university. Okay. A one one, three, shows up even in cars as the train number. And in every Pixar movie, including your favorite Finding Nemo. You will see A one one if you're paying attention. What is Aone one three? A oneone3 was a classroom number at the California Institute of Arts. With the students of the California Institute of Arts, bless you. Agreed to do was to use A 113 as a digital calling card to let you and I know if a student from California Institute of Arts worked on that movie. It doesn't just show up in Pixar movies. It shows up in the Hunger Games movies. It shows up in the Mission Impossible movies because they want you and I to know that a California Institute of Arts alumnus was involved in the production of the movie. And just as A 113 is a digital calling card for alums of the California Institute of Arts, the Children of God, have a calling card. Yeah. But before I tell you what that is, if you don't know what is your calling card? What are you known for When you walk into work, when you walk into the classroom, when you walk into your meetings what are you known for? Psalm 100 helps us understand clearly. With the calling card of the child of god is. It's a familiar passage of scripture. We've probably read it an innumerable number of times We've probably recited it. We've probably heard people recite it passionately from the pulpit. We've heard it read in devotions. Psalm 100. And what Psalm 100 communicates is that the child of god is to be known for worship. Amen. Unfortunately, there is a erroneous understanding of worship even in the body of Christ. Amen. A lot of people think that worship is something that is done only on Sunday, morning or Sunday afternoon. There are others that are a little bit more aware and they think it is only done on Wednesday or whenever your church has bible study or prayer service. However, when we look at the biblical definition of worship, whether it's the Hebrew of the Old Testament, the Aramaic that Jesus spoke or the Greek of the New Testament, worship has one meaning, and that is the orientation of one's life, in full to the one in whom you are serving And since you are here this morning, if there's anyone on Facebook or YouTube, I am going to make an assumption that you have a desire to be known for worship and worship of the one true living God. That's right. That's right. So I ask you again. What is your calling called? Psalm 100 is an invitational and instructional Psalm about worship. The window through which we look at this Psalm is really line number three and it tells us in the A clause know that the Lord is God. That is what helps us with the thesis for this message. God's existence inspires our worship. It's not complicated. It ain't even much that deep. That's right. But because God is God, we cannot help but worship. In line number one, we hear the following. I have the English Standard Version today A Psalm of giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the lord. Praise him. Good morning. If your Bible says that you got a bad copy, Make a joyful noise to the lord, musicians. That's not what it says, is it? No, sir. Make a good sounding noise to the lord. That's not what it says. Make a joyful noise to the lord. who All the earth. Yes. Yes. Serve the lord with gladness. Some English translation say, worship the lord with gladness. Same meaning. Come into his presence. Amen. With singing. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. There are over 2 hundred thousand species of living things that sing. Yeah. But we cannot hear with the human ear. One such of those species is the tree hopper. The way the tree hopper sings is they vibrate their stomachs 100 times a second. Yeah. Causing the stem of a plant to vibrate and it makes a noise that only other tree hoppers could hear until recently. Alright. Rex Crowcroft of the University of Missouri loves studying species that use singing to communicate. And he came up with this device called a vibrometer and he used that device to be able to hear one tree hopper communicate to other tree hoppers. And if you want to listen to it, go to Google, Bing, whatever your favorite search engine is and you and I now can hear a treehopper communicate to another tree hopper because of the instrument called a red barometer. Now, it's nice as that sound and as cool as it is to me. Unfortunately, god has to use vibrometer sometime. I did open my eyes and look around while the praise team was still singing and there's some people in this room that need a vibrometer. Because the text says, make a joyful noise all the earth and if a treehopper can sing, you heard the bird singing this morning. Frogs can sing, whales can sing, you can sing, it doesn't sound good when I sing but I'm not singing for you to hear. I'm singing to god. It says, make a joyful noise. And if god has done anything for you, you should have some joy and therefore, they don't the pumping primers. They shouldn't have to beg us. We shouldn't make them work that hard. We ought to make a joyful noise. To the lord. That is you and I. If we are children of god. Amen. Amen. I made an assumption and I know what an assumption can do to me and you. But if we are children of god, you and I ought to be known as singing servants. Those who sing while we serve. Yeah. Amen. Not just on Sunday but every day. Amen. Sing in the shower. Sing in the car. Yeah. Yeah. Make a joyful noise to the lord, All the earth. Yeah singing servants. Yes sir. Just because of god's existence. Not only are we to be singing servants, that's lines one and two but line number three, again, the window that we are to look through it where this is Psalm 100 was a door, it was swing on the hinges of line number three says, know that the Lord he is God. Amen. It is he who made us and we are his or some English translation, not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep. Yeah. Of his pasture. Yeah. Israel had the same issue back then as the government of Israel has right now. And the and the Israel of right now is not geographically, politically, or socioeconomically what Israel is in scripture. Trying to help you watch 60 minutes tonight. But Israel had this perspective number one, that god had only chosen them. Yeah, yeah. Which means they had the same problem as some of us have. They didn't know their history. Daddy, Adam, and mama Eve, based on the rivers mentioned in Genesis chapter one were created in modern day Iraq. Yeah father Abraham and mother Sarah, they came from Er of the Chaldeans. They came from that land which is modern day Iran and yet for some reason, they thought that only god had chosen them. Sounds like another government that you and I are a part of that think that god has only chosen them. And that's important to note because the Psalm is trying to remind them of the daily decisions. That's the second point for those taking notes of what god's people have to make. It is a theological decision on a daily basis as well as a political decision not just during an election year which is every two years, not four, but every day of our lives, we make political decisions. How does the text speak to it? I'm so glad you asked. When they would go to the temple, they had to make a choice. Alright. Because the was on one side and the temple was on the other side. Am I going to go in the king's house and serve the earthly king or am I going to serve the king of kings? Amen. And the lord of lords. And the Psalm is says, know that the lord is god. He is our creator and we are his creation. Amen. And every human is a part of god's creation. Alright. Every human is god's son or daughter by creation. Amen. That is why we have coworkers, classmates, other people that we know who they call god by another name because every human is created with the desire to have a relationship with god. Amen. Some call him Allah. Some people are referring to the universe because they are seeking god whether or not they can articulate it and there are all these other religions on the earth and people are seeking god. That's why we don't judge people. Right. Right. We pray for him. Right. We worship god. That is we live our daily lives so that we have a sweet-smelling spirit that reflects the spirit of god. So, they want some of what we have and then we can tell them that not only am I a son or daughter in creation but line, the next line even tells us some of us are god's son and daughters by confession. Amen. Now, they said it just in general because god is the shepherd. He says the same thing that David may have been the author of this Psalm says, the lord is my shepherd. I don't need another shepherd. That's right. It says there that we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. How does this tell us where he is by confection? Because we have declared that Jesus who is the savior of the world is our lord and savior. In John chapter ten, he says, I am the good shepherd. Good shepherd. I am the gate for the sheep. Therefore, you and I declare by the way we live, this is the theology that we believe in Jesus. We don't just say it, we don't just sing it but the way we live shows. Yeah. Alright. That we believe in Jesus. The way we think about people shows we believe in Jesus. Alright. The way we talk about people shows. Yes. We believe in Jesus. The way we embrace everybody no matter their social demographics, shows that we believe in Jesus. That's the theological and all of us are the theologians. Even the are theologians because theology is simply thinking about god and everybody thinks about god. Then, there's that political decision that you and I make and again, it's there because of what they had to do. They had to declare with their lives their worship, do I believe in the earthly king? Do I pledge allegiance to the earthly king? Do I pledge allegiance to earthly people or do I pledge allegiance to God. Alright. You and I make that decision every day too. Because we say we believe in a risen savior who chose to leave heaven and come down and identify with the Palestinian family. Let me say that again in case somebody missed it and you going to watch the news tonight. A Palestinian Jewish family who had to be political immigrants and run to Egypt to escape genocide by the government. And this says that we have to remember who is god, not us, not any other human, not any of the government, not the IRS, not our boss, but god and god alone. That's right. Amen. And we make that decision and show that decision every day. Alright. We're singing servants. That's how one way we worship. Another way we worship is with our daily decisions and line number four tells us about thankful praise. Enter his gates with thanksgiving. Yeah. And his courts with praise. Give thanks to him. Bless his name. Yes. Again, when we sing, the praise team is singing for us in some sense but they're singing to god. That's why we join in with them because we don't care about how our neighbor feels about our singing because we ain't singing for them anyway. We're singing to god. Amen. Now, let me back up. Now, everybody does not sound good singing. That's why only a select few have the mics. Praise his holy name. But all of us can make a joyful noise. And notice here, there's an internal before the external. It says, enter his gates with thanksgiving. That means, get yourself together at home. Before you come in the lord's house. That is to say, sometimes, we can't get up off our blessed assurances because we ain't saying to the lord all week. Sometimes, we don't lift holy hands because we ain't done nothing with our hands for the lord all week. Sometimes, we can't get up and sing because we have hard hearts because we ain't done nothing with our emotions with the lord all week long. Amen. Sometimes we get hard heads so we can't even think about god and we don't get up to praise the lord. We don't wave our hands. We don't clap our hands. It is an internal work and service. We have to do every day. So, we come here. We are thankful. Yes, sir. Amen. And not even 10 30. So, let me help you what you can be thankful for today. He woke you up this morning. You able to get out the bed. Even if you like me and had to warm up like old Buick before you got up, you got up out the bed. I'm looking around. Everybody clothes are matching. That means you're in your right mind. Yeah. You you got your hair done. Even if you bought it, I see all the wigs are straight right now. You had a pick to pick some of your hair. You had a razor to shave, a brush to brush it. Everybody looking good and smiling. And it's not even ten thirty. You had transportation even if it was just your two feet and 10 toes. You had transportation to here and you and I ought to be thankful and if we thankful, we can enter his gates. Praising his holy name. That's not even a thing about what he did yesterday. Last week, last month, last year and some of us have the audacity to never get up. Yeah. Never open our mouths. Never lift our hands. Never clap our hands. Enter his gates with thanksgiving. That leads to the external in his courts with praise. Give thanks to him. Bless his holy name. Amen. Sit down so I can finish talking about what I'm talking about. Amen. Then, the Psalm is concludes. Thank you god for the lord is good. Yes, it is. His steadfast love endures forever. And his faithfulness. Yes. In all generations. Yes. Yeah. If you notice in English, there's a specific name for god in the text. It's a four-letter word and it is capitalized, capital L. Capital O. Capital R. Capital D. The lord. Yes. That is what it says in English in the original Hebrew language, it is also four letters. They've hey. You and I add some vows to it to help us pronounce it and we call him Yahweh. One day in Hamburg, Germany, Fritz Kressler was getting ready to go to London for a performance. He was a famous violinist and he had his own violin and he went into a violin shop. Being known for who he was and what he did. His violins were also known because they were his violins. Alright. And when he walked into this violin shop in Germany, the owner of the shop said, may I see your violin? He to miss violin. He looked at the violin and he said, just a moment and he ran out the store and he vanished and went to get the police. He and the two police came back and the police came up to Fritz and they said, you are under arrest. He says, why am I under arrest? They said, because you have Fritz Kressler's violin and you obviously have stolen it. He says, no, I am Fritz Chrysler. This is my violin. The police believe him and they begin to take him away but he knew he had to get to London for his performance and so he said, give me an opportunity to play the violin and I'll prove to you who I am. He took the violin, he played it, and they released him because he did what only Fritz Christler could do. Now, we think about the name of god. It's interesting because all of our names are nouns. But the name of god is a verb. Yo, they va hey. It is a in which god told Moses when he came in Exodus chapter three to a bush that was on fire but it would not burn up. And Moses said, who am I to say you're sending me? He says, I am, that I am. That I am. That is because is the word and the verb to be. Amen. It is conjugated to mean I am because I am is always in the present tense. That is god is perpetually in the is state. Yes. Amen. God is always here, there, and everywhere. He is omnipresent. He is everywhere All the time at the same time. Yeah. That's why we don't wait to worship him when we come into a specific place at a specific time. Yeah. But more than that, we worship him because we know somebody else that told some people, he is I am. Yeah. And it made him mad and we know what they did to him. He told him at least seven times the gospel of John tells us that I am. He made another I am statements as well and and we used to go from to what the Hebrews called Yeshua. The Greeks called him Christophes. That is the Christ and you and I know him as Jesus. Yeah. This Jesus who left heaven again on his own. Yeah. Because humanity couldn't and can't get it right. Right. To become a little baby boy to be cared for by some Palestinian Jews who were in abject poverty. Yeah. Then was born into a world where he had to hide again, he and his parents from genocide. Then, he live for me and live for you. The Bible says, he went through everything that you and I went through. Yeah. Then, for 3 years, he calls some people to follow him and he poured his life into theirs. Three and a half years later, the most important week and known to humanity. The last time he entered Jerusalem, the last time he, this Palestinian Jew entered Israel, we know what they did to him. First, Judas betrayed him. Then the other 11 who was supposed to be there for him when nobody else was, they betrayed him. Then he was arrested. Then, he was beaten. Yeah. Then, he was bruised. Then, he was stripped naked and he was crucified for me and crucified for you. They took six-inch nails and jammed them in each of his wrist. They took six-inch nails, folded his feet over, and banged them to both of his ankles, set him on a thing, dropped his hole in the, and dropped body and the cross in the hole for him to die and it wasn't to help him, it was to make him suffer worse. Yeah. They started at nine o'clock in the morning and he hung there for 6 hours, suffocating, organ shutting down one by one. All 3. 5 liters of blood dripping out of his body for me and for you and he died that Friday. Yeah. Stay dead all night Friday. Stay dead Saturday morning. Stay dead Saturday night but early Sunday morning, he rose from the grave and don't run past that you quick because the devil said if you jump off this temple in chapter four of Luke and Matthew, I'll give you all power but when he was raised from the grave, he had all power in his hand on earth, in heaven, and under the earth. Then, he hung around to hang out for about six weeks to reconcile some relationships even though them but them hard head, hard-hearted people betrayed him and he does the same for me and you. That's the I am I serve. That's the I am I sing for. That's the I am I make daily decisions for. That's the I am I'm thankful for. And I don't know about your house. But for Jennifer, Josiah and Jabari from my house. We will serve the lord. They can stick in this. Please stand with me. There may be someone who don't know about the Lord we just heard about. Here's your opportunity to come. To understand why we make a joyful noise. You may not learn it all in one day. You won't learn it all in one week. You won't learn it all over your lifetime. But if you make that first step and come this way, I guarantee you'll be better. In the end. And then there might be some who strayed away who's looking for a place to call home. We offer Mount Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church a place where we strive to teach and to show godly love. Will there be one? Is what I do as we dismiss from this place Make sure you go. Praising the Lord. All day. Every day. In everything you do. Be blessed. Have a great week. See you next week.
