Product Description
Product Description
A superbly crafted dramatization of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner's first nationally published short story, this is the tale of an indomitable Southern woman who clutched the past so resolutely that life itself was denied. The film is at once a twentieth century Gothic tale, a psychological study of isolation, and a history of the decay of the old order. Starring Anjelica Huston as Miss Emily Grierson, and featuring John Carradine in a cameo role, the film is narrated by John Houseman. Produced by Lyndon Chubbuck and H. Kaye Dyal.
Review

Still, in the short time of the film (27 minutes), quite a bit is captured. Angelica Houston succeeds in capturing the essence of Miss Emily's deteriorating mental state and John Housemen does a solid job with the "voice over" narration of the story. There is a dark, dreary atmosphere in the film that parallels with the story.
Honestly, it is fantastic to see this short story brought to life, despite some of its minor flaws (a few discrepancies in the story). This film could be used as a great resource or companion piece for teachers who want to help students visualize "A Rose for Emily" and its complexities. Over all, this story captures the essential aspects and pieces of the story.
The quality of the film is also fairly good.
One of my biggest beefs is the price, which is a tad pricey for what you get. Hopefully this will be reduced.
Faulkner fans should definitely consider checking this one out.
