"Annie Laurie" is an old Scottish song based on a poem written by William Douglas (1672 - c1760) of Dumfriesshire, about his romance with Annie Laurie (1682–1764). It is one of the best known Scottish ballads. The 1927 silent movie "Annie Laurie" lays out the clan conflict between the MacDonalds and Campbells with Annie Laurie as the pivot. A 1936 short film entitled "Annie Laurie" tells the story of William Douglas and Annie Laurie. This book, "Ballad Of Annie Laurie" chronicles the real history of Annie Laurie growing up in the magnificent Maxwelton House, her romance with William Douglas and marriage to Alexander Fergusson, 14th Laird of Craigdarroch. Readers will be humming "Annie Laurie" in their dreams.
