RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo manager Dorival Junior has heaped praise on Athletico Parananese counterpart Luiz Felipe Scolari as the teams prepare for an all-Brazilian Copa Libertadores final next month.

Scolari, whose decorated managerial career has included two Copa Libertadores titles and the 2002 World Cup trophy with Brazil, was described by Dorival as an inspiration for his peers.

"Felipao is a role model for all of us," he said. "He was my coach. I have a great amount of gratitude and respect for him. In any country in the world he would be highly respected He is one of the most successful managers not only in this country, but in the world."

The Copa Libertadores final will be played in the Ecuadorian port city of Guayaquil on October 29.

Paranaense advanced to the final of South American football's most important club competition by completing a 3-2 aggregate win over reigning champions Palmeiras.

Flamengo, meanwhile, reached its third final in four years by overcoming Velez Sarsfield 6-1 over two legs.

"Facing Felipao is not going to be easy," Dorival said of the tactical challenge that awaits him and his coaching staff. "We have to prepare much more and much better than we already have. I hope we can play our best match of the year."

Scolari, 73, previously won the Copa Libertadores as the head coach of Gremio in 1995 and Palmeiras in 1999.

Flamengo will be vying to win the tournament for a third time while Athletico Paranaense is seeking its first title.
