Lucas Moura has felt like a part of the furniture at Tottenham for some time, yet a recent interview has indicated that the Brazilian attacker could leave north London this summer.

The South American revealed that he is open to returning to Brazil in the future to play for Sao Paulo once again, the club Lucas made his name at and in doing so became one of the hottest properties in world football.

Whilst the winger never really hit the heights many expected Lucas to reach, the forward still holds a special place in Tottenham’s history, and the Brazilian leaving the club this summer will leave a major void in the squad.

Indeed, whilst Lucas didn’t specify that he wanted to return to Sao Paulo this summer, here are five clubs the attacker could join this transfer widow if the 29-year-old decides to leave Tottenham in the coming months.

Tottenham signed Lucas from PSG for £23m in 2018, so naturally, Ligue 1 is a solid division for where the South American could move to this summer, and AS Monaco could be an interesting project for the Spurs star.

Philippe Clement’s side have been outstanding in 2022 and missed out on guaranteed UEFA Champions League football due to a 96th-minute RC Lens equaliser in the last fixture of the campaign, and with a play-off now set to take part this summer, Lucas could be a great addition to the side ahead of these massive games and an exciting season.

From the French south coast to the Eternal City of Rome, many Serie A clubs could be ideal destinations for Lucas given the pace of the division and how Brazilians usually succeed in Italy, yet for our pick, we’ve chosen a reunion with Jose Mourinho.

The AS Roma boss was a huge fan of Lucas during their time together at Tottenham, and if the attacker is to leave north London, linking up with Mourinho could be an exciting prospect for the winger, especially after the Portuguese coach’s latest European triumph.

A Premier League move could be difficult for Lucas given his immense love for Tottenham and his hefty wages, however, if there’s one club who have been suckers for signing fringe players from top-six sides, it’s Everton.

With the Toffees set for a huge summer of rebuilding, Lucas could actually be a solid signing for the Merseyside club, with the Brazilian able to play numerous attacking positions that could be beneficial for Everton if Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave in the coming weeks.

MLS is a league that is growing in quality and reputation every year, and for Lucas, America could be an outstanding next step for his career whilst he waits for the long-awaited move back to Brazil for Sao Paulo, and as to which franchise he could join, the New York Red Bulls make plenty of sense.

The New Jersey-based club have a free Designated Player spot available, meaning that the Red Bulls have the finances to match whatever wage Lucas is demanding, and given the strong South American and Brazilian influence in the division, the Tottenham star could feel right at home on the east coast.

Villarreal

Like Everton with Premier League outcasts, Villarreal in recent years has become something of a home to similar players in La Liga, with Unai Emery’s Champions League semi-final squad featuring the likes of Juan Foyth, Francis Coquelin and Giovani Lo Celso (granted the Argentine was only there on loan).

With an incredible project brewing and Lucas open to a new challenge, a move to Spain could suit the attacker’s game to a tee, with La Liga a much slower division compared to the Premier League which would play well in the 29-year-old’s style of play.
