I wasn’t sure what to expect from this museum. It is ¼ art museum inside, and ¾ living museum outside with about 1-1/4 miles of trails that take you to various styles of homes (from dugouts to a mansion to a train depot) and other buildings that have been relocated from other areas of Texas. You don’t go into the buildings but look through gated doorways. I wish the mansion had been open, but we were told it is only open during summer when they have a docent available. Fans of 1883 will enjoy seeing the costumes worn by the main actors, as well as buggys, stagecoaches, and vintage cars. There is a nice gift shop and a short film about Hank the Cow dog. Kids will enjoy running around outside. Staff was friendly and very passionate about the museum. It’s free.

We were in Lubbock to visit the Buddy Holly Center. I always listened to Buddy Holly as a kid, my Dad was a big fan. He always said that if Buddy Holly hasn't died, that he would be bigger than Elvis. The museum is so well done, I learned so much about Buddy Holly and the origins, early days of rock n roll..I thought I knew a lot, but didn't know as much as I thought. The story of Buddy Holly is bittersweet. A very very young man at the height of his life. Successful, a new husband, about to be a father. He only had an 18 month career, but he accomplished so much ! Paul McCartney says, no Crickets, no Beatles! Across the street is the Buddy Holly statue and Texas, Walk of Fame. We also toured the home of AJ Allison , the Crickets drummer
It's on the premesis. There's also a very good art exhibit and gift shop. We were there most of the day.

A "must see" in Lubbock! We loved it! I had no idea what a glider plane was or that it was used during WW 2 . Do not miss this! It is so well done and informative. The highlight of Lubbock.

We went here for a meeting, not understanding what a phenomenal place this is. OMG! There are many more windmills inside than outside, plus miniature train sets (a lot!), doll houses, millstones, etc. We spent over two hours and didn't see everything.

    1. Good to know about the prairie dog town’s history which was a good story.
    2. Good for people never see prairie dogs, but you can’t really see the prairie dogs that close.
    3. Seems like the area outside the official “town” has more prairie dogs now!
Recommend people who haven’t seen prairie dogs to go taking a look.

This museum has a lot to offer to keep little children interested and entertained for a few hours. There are 3 floors of exhibits and it looks like they are upgrading some of their areas as well. I would recommend for younger children (less than 10 yrs), and not older teenagers as the science exhibits are aimed at younger kids. It was a good environment for them to run around and explore.

If you go to the Buddy Holly Center, it's just across the street. Beautiful statue and park. There's a Paul McCartney oak, but unfortunately it looks dead. Don't miss it!

Saw Ian Moore last night at the Cactus Theater. Ian Moore is one Texas greatest guitarist, so we knew it would be a good show. It was great! Even Ian Moore commented on the energy, he was rocking. We'd been to the Cactus previously, but I don't remember the quality of the venue...the lights, smoke, and sound were great and added to the quality of the show. One down side which we noticed the last time we visited - no room to stand up and dance. I'd recommend they install some removable seats on the sides closest to the stage to remove for dance space for these type of events. It would significantly increase the vibe. Those who want to dance can dance, others can still enjoy the seats. Some folks went to the front to dance anyway, especially towards the end anyway, but it would be great throughout the show.

I have visited a few wineries in Texas and this has been my favorite so far! It was so nice and lots of seating options. My friend, my daughter and I sat in a soft seating area and our server was so friendly and helpful. It was my daughter’s first visit to a winery and I told her the bar has been set high and many others can’t compare. I hope to visit again while she is still a student at Tech.

This wine is spectacular. After living in Texas for 20+ years, only in the last two years or so have I discovered any drinkable wine made here. Comanche has a good winery, as do Brownwood and Fort Davis, but I think McPherson's may be the best in the state; it could definitely hold its own with California wines. Forget the Hill Country--Lubbock/West Texas is where the good Texas wine lives.
