He’s depicted wearing hand-made goatskin garments, carrying weapons and scanning the horizon. The figure was sculpted by Thomas Stuart Burnett in 1885 , and commissioned by businessman David Gillies who was a direct descendant of Alexander Selkirk.Written February 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It doesn't matter from where you take a photo you can't help but see it in it's former and present glory !!Written March 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you enjoy beach-combing you’ll find fragments of pottery , and wave-worn sea-glass , from factories that used to be in operation in the area - but are now long-gone. The water here is very clear, and has been designated official bathing waters, plus the beach is dog-friendly all year round. The sands backs onto a large , well-set-out , free car-park , situated beside free public toilets. For snacks there is a nearby cafe called The Aurrie , housed in what used to be Largo Baptist Church - or bring your own picnic.Written September 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
