When it comes to British gangster comedies, I'm pretty sure that most people would prefer Guy Ritchie's films over this one. However, Love, Honor, & Obey takes a page from Christopher Guest's playbook, and has most of the lines be improvised. However, the improvisation can lead to areas that feel out of place in this movie. For example, the subplot where the security guard deals with erectile dysfunction. Thankfully, this subplot has a silver lining, as it leads to a hilarious scene where said guard and his wife sing Burning Love.
All in all, it's nice to see Jude Law before he became known to American audiences. British character actors like Rhys Ifans, Ray Winstone, and Jonny Lee Miller also star in this.

I'll admit there was some good comedy at the start, but it didn't take long for it to become a most agonizing experience. This reeks of being a student film, with shoddy camera work, atrocious performances and laughably bad dialogue, while being entirely devoid of a plot.

I feel like people who overly criticise Love, Honour and Obey have fundamentally missed what the film is even about. Love, Honour and Obey is very much a mock satire of the British gangster film and does so with a huge amount of swagger and intelligence that even when it's a parody of its own genre, that it even lovingly becomes a great film in that genre.
Ray runs North London's most powerful criminal gang, and his nephew Jude is a polished and successful member. Jude's boyhood friend Jonny comes to Jude with an idea he wants to pitch to Ray; Jude is reluctant to mix friendship…
It's like they took a rather lame idea for an off-beat, past-the-watershed improvised BBC sitcom, and decided to jump straight to the feature film. They really shouldn't have bothered. If this is London's answer to the Sopranos, then we can all sleep peacefully.....which is the overall effect it had (once I'd switched off, because while it was on it was just irritating).

One of my favourite gangster movies ever. Perfect cast, whip smart script, perfect balance of humour and pathos. This is one of the jewels in the crown of the Primrose Hill Set, and the most underrated. Following on from their 1998 Final Cut, Dominic Anciano and Ray Burdis again wrote, directed and appeared alongside the regular Primrose Hill gang. But this is a much more ambitious and accomplished work than The Final Cut, which I also liked.
I defy anyone not to enjoy this tale of karaoke-loving, rough-talking London crooks.
The follow up to Final Cut, Love Honour and Obey sees writing/producing/directing and performing duo Ray Burdis and Dominic Anciano continue their comedic improvisational skills honed on that film and the BBC's Operation Good Guys to portray some bad guys, a curious but nonetheless enjoyable mix of their dark, near the knuckle humour and their producing of the 1990 biopic, The Krays.

A mockney gangster film that really misses the mark for me. There's similarities to the likes of Snatch but this is much more slapstick and silly. It felt like a bunch of sketches quickly put together with a very low budget feel. Some parts made me laugh but the novelty wore thin about a third of the way through.

This was obviously conceived and born in that late 90's "Cool Britannia" era where these kind of "don't mug me off" gangster movies were ten a penny.
I mean, you've gotta admire a film that one one hand is filmed like a cheap mid 90's student film but has such a MASSIVE array of acting talent.
Sure, there's enough badly acted and filmed scenes to fill an MGM warehouse, Lee Millar is giving probably one of his worst performances and the less said about the "clown" scenes the better but Ray Burdis scenes with either Burke or Dominic Anciano regarding his problems with his wife are pretty funny in places and Van Outen really goes all in for a few scenes.
