Bob Harris

Bob Harris' character performed by Bill Murray.

Bob is a famous American movie star who has come to Tokyo to shoot a series of ads for a local whiskey company, Suntory. He is in a middle-life crisis and seems like an actor whose career has gone into a tailspin; Feeling no small degree of culture shock in Japan, Bob spends most of his non-working hours at his hotel.

Charlotte

Charlotte's character performed by Scarlett Johansson.

Charlotte is a recent college graduate who is in Tokyo with her husband, a celebrity photographer. She is a Yale philosophy grad who try to find how her own life lacks direction. Charlotte confesses to being stuck, reflects on how her husband has changed and find in Bob an unexpected soulfriend as she shares his sense of drift.

John

John's character performed by Giovanni Ribisi.

Charlotte's husband John, is a young trendy photographer who has come to Tokyo along with his wife to shoot famous bands and artists. He often leaves her alone to find herself while he's off shooting rock stars and talking with his famous friends. John is too preoccupied with his assignment to notice his wife's lonliness.

Kelly

Kelly's character performed by Anna Faris.

Kelly is an old friend of Charlotte's husband, John, who is in Tokyo for the promotion of her new movie called "Midnight Velocity". She meets them at the hotel lobby and reflects the image of a vacuous Hollywood starlet who is under the name Evelyn Waugh. A straight forward character to Charlotte.

Ms. Kawasaki

Ms. Kawasaki's character performed by Akiko Takeshita.

Ms. Kawasaki is the person who welcomes Bob to Tokyo at his first day in there. She is also in charge of having Mr. Harris informed about his daily programm and other details of his visit in Japan. She is also translates to Bob what Japanese director says, during the Suntory commercial.

Charlie

Charlie's character performed by Fumihiro Hayashi.

Charlie is an old friend of Charlotte. They meet each other during her visit in Tokyo. They spent time all together with Bob in the night scenes of the Japanese city. His name is given due to his similarity with Charlie Brown. He appears in the karaoke room who sings along with Bob and Charlotte. 

Jazz Singer

Jazz Singer's character performed by Catherine Lambert.

She is the singer of the jazz band "Sausalito" that play at the bar of the hotel where Bob stays. Except of having hotel guests amused with her songs, she meets Bob a late night at the Bar. The next morning finds them on the same room having spent the night together in front of a surprised Charlotte.

TV Host (as Mathew Minami)

TV Host's character performed by Takashi Fujii.

Mathew Minami is a TV Host of a famous entertainment programm who invites Bob to be as a guest in his show for an interview. A TV programm full of glamour, lights and fuzz that makes Bob feel quite embarrassment. TV Host's persona reflects the opposite side of television that Bob belongs to.

Commercial Director

Commercial Director's character performed by Diamond Yukai.

He is the man who gives Bob orders in Japanese about his performance during the filming of Suntory whiskie commercial. His instructions include "Imagine you're talking to an old friend. Gently. The emotions bubble up from the bottom of your heart." that leaves Bob unable to understand.

Premium Fantasy Woman

P. Fantasy Woman's character performed by Nao Asuka.

It's the first night on Tokyo for Bob, who unable to sleep, have an unexpected guest on his room. Premium Fantasy Woman - as she call herself, orders him "lip my stockins". It's a surprise full of erotic promises that meets Bob's face impressions full of questions and tiredness to give in.
