Southern California storm: 12th atmospheric river brings rain, snow

California's string of wet weather continued as a 12th atmospheric river hit the Golden State on Tuesday, bringing more heavy rain, snowfall and high-powered winds.
The National Weather Service issued a series of warnings for many Southland areas, including:
- flood watch for most of Los Angeles County, lasting from Monday evening to Wednesday afternoon;
- wind advisory for most of Los Angeles County, lasting from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday;
- high wind warning for Orange County coastal and inland areas, lasting from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday
- flood watch for Orange County coastal and inland areas, lasting through Tuesday
- winter storm warning in San Gabriel Mountains, along Highway 14 corridor through Tuesday;
Winds reaching up to 35 miles per hour are expected in Orange County, which could lead to fallen trees and power lines.
On top of this, with already heavily saturated soil throughout Southern California, the NWS also warned of severe flooding along creeks, rivers and in low-lying areas. Rainfall totals could eclipse three inches along coasts and in valleys, with double that predicted in mountain regions.
"Tuesday to Tuesday night there is a slight risk (15% to 40% chance) for excessive rainfall and flash flooding along and west of the mountains with a marginal risk (5% to 15% chance) of flash flooding for our deserts," the NWS said. "Mainly snow is expected at higher mountain elevations."
Parts of the San Gabriel Mountains, located above 6,000 feet elevation could see up to five feet of snow accumulated. Those numbers decrease as elevation does, with anywhere between two and 10 inches predicted at 3,500 feet elevation. Some winds in the mountains could also increase to 75 miles per hour during the worst of the storm.
High wind event damages buildings in Montebello
A high wind event caused damage to the roofs of at least five buildings in Montebello at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Multiple vehicles in the area appeared to be damaged by debris from the wind.
Buildings in the area of Maple Avenue and East Washington Boulevard were damaged.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Tornado Warning issued for Ventura and LA County
The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern LA County and Central Ventura County.
Winter storm warning
A winter storm warning is in effect for the San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor until 11 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service said. Heavy snow in that area is expected.
Grapevine sees snow
With snow falling in the area, the California Highway Patrol has begun escorting motorists through the Grapevine section of the 5 Freeway in northern Los Angeles County, according to Caltrans.
Flood advisory in LA
There is a flood advisory in effect for LA County coasts, valleys and lower mountains until 10:45 Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.
Horse races cancelled due to rain
Due to rain, Santa Anita Park has canceled Friday's races, and will instead hold racing Monday.
Azusa area sees downpour in latest atmospheric river storm
Coast Highway Closure
Coast Highway in Orange County shut down at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Beach Road to Camino Capistrano. The road will be closed for an undetermined period of time.

Caltrans announces road closures due to storm
Caltrans announced closures due to Tuesday's storm at about 6:30 a.m.
- State Route 2 is closed from Mt. Wilson Road to Big Pines through Angeles National Forest.
- State Route 39 is closed at the San Gabriel River Bridge above Azusa.
- State Route 33 is closed from Matilija Hot Springs Road to Lockwood Valley Road in Ventura County. SR-33 is reduced to one lane with traffic control at post mile 14.35.
- State Route 126: Westbound right lane is closed from State Route 23 and A Street to Los Serenos Drive in Fillmore.
- Interstate 5 remains open through the Grapevine and Tejon Pass.

Cajon Pass: Rain, snow bring dangerous driving conditions
Wind and a rain/snow mix hit Hesperia Tuesday morning creating dangerous driving conditions.
Chains are required on Highway 18 on the way up to mountain communities.
