HBO's hit crime-drama series The Sopranos first aired in 1999 and is widely credited with starting the Second Golden Age of Television due to its cinematic production methods.
Following the lives of a gang of New Jersey mobsters, the show ran for six gripping seasons and even spawned a spin-off, The Many Saints of Newark, which was released in 2021.
The Emmy-winning show made many of its cast members, including James Gandolfini and Steven Van Zandt, household names. But which star of The Sopranos became the richest after it ended? Read on to find out. All dollar amounts are in US dollars.
David Proval: $2 million (£1.6m)
David Proval played the recurring role of Richie Aprile, a ruthless "capo" (leader) and member of the DiMeo crime family.
Proval was already an established actor before joining The Sopranos cast. He rose to fame after starring alongside Robert De Niro in the 1973 Martin Scorsese crime flick Mean Streets and also appeared in a slew of hit TV shows throughout the 80s, including Knight Rider, Miami Vice, and The Equalizer.
He appeared in 10 episodes of The Sopranos, leaving the show when his character was killed off.
David Proval: $2 million (£1.6m)
Proval later starred in movies including the comedy flicks Smokin' Aces and Balls of Fury, and crime thriller The Circle.

John Ventimiglia played Artie Bucco, the chef, restaurateur, and childhood best friend of Tony Soprano. He appeared in 36 episodes of the show.
Ventimiglia made his screen debut in 1987 with a small, uncredited role in the wacky horror comedy I Was a Teenage Zombie.
While The Sopranos undeniably put Ventimiglia on the map, he’d already appeared in several other small-screen projects, including NYPD Blue and As the World Turns.

Vincent Pastore played Salvatore Bonpensiero, Tony's close friend and a soldier in the DiMeo crime family. He appeared as a main character in the show's first two seasons, and then guest-starred in seasons five and six.
Pastore made his acting debut in the 1988 horror movie Black Roses.

Drea de Matteo played Adriana La Cerva, the partner of mobster Christopher Moltisanti. She featured in the show's first five seasons as a regular character and returned as a guest star in the final season.
The actress made her screen debut in 1996, appearing in an episode of the TV series Swift Justice.

While starring in The Sopranos, de Matteo scored a leading role in the Friends spin-off series Joey, which aired between 2004 and 2006.
She's worked steadily ever since her role as Adriana ended, appearing in projects such as the drama series Sons of Anarchy, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the 2022 thriller flick Safe Room.
According to IMDb, De Matteo will next feature in the movies The Latin From Manhattan and Nonnas.

Dominic Chianese: $10 million (£7.9m)
Dominic Chianese played Corrado "Junior" Soprano, Tony's uncle and the former boss of the DiMeo crime family. The character appeared in all six seasons of the beloved show.
Chianese was already an established star before joining The Sopranos, having made his screen debut in the critically acclaimed TV series East Side/West Side in 1964.

'Little' Steven Van Zandt played mobster Silvio Dante, owner of the Bada Bing! club, which doubles as the headquarters for the DiMeo crime family.
Van Zandt rose to fame as a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, in which he plays guitar and mandolin. He also launched a solo music project, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, in the 1980s.
Aside from a non-speaking background part in the 1985 sports movie American Flyers, the musician had no acting experience when he landed his breakout gig on The Sopranos.
Steven Van Zandt: $80 million (£63.1m)
Van Zandt has continued performing with the E Street Band and is currently part of the ongoing Springsteen and E Street Band Tour line-up.
He still acts, most notably starring in the Netflix crime drama Lilyhammer between 2012 and 2014. His most recent big-screen performance was alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the critically acclaimed 2019 film The Irishman.

Other notable projects prior to joining The Sopranos cast included the crime epic GoodFellas and the TV series Miami Vice.

After The Sopranos wrapped, Sirico appeared in movies including Woody Allen's Café Society and the 2018 dramedy Sarah Q.

Toward the end of The Sopranos, Gandolfini was earning a remarkable $1 million (£800k) per episode, meaning that he banked a staggering $21 million (£17m) over the course of the final season.
Post-Tony, he appeared in movies such as the critical darling Zero Dark Thirty and the Brad Pitt-led thriller Killing Them Softly (both 2012). His last performance was in the 2014 crime movie The Drop.
Gandolfini tragically died from a heart attack in 2013, aged just 51. His estimated net worth at the time of his death was $70 million (£56m).
