Longwall Street

Longwall Street

Longwall Street lies between 60 High Street to the west and Magdalen College to the east. It lay in the parish of St Peter-in-the-East Church.

The college’s fifteenth-century wall, with the deer-park behind, runs along much of the east side of Longwall Street, but the wall it is named after is in fact the old city wall, which runs parallel to it on the west side but which is now concealed behind the houses there.

After turning the corner at the north end, Longwall Street splits into Holywell Street and St Cross Road. It has become an important through-route since the High was closed to traffic in 2000.
