A lot of folks have said some negative things about these two actors over preparing, complaining, and having things that most folks would not. First thing I learned when planning my trip around the world was, that when I reach “my comfort level” then I should take off and do my trip. Well, that comfort level is different for every single person. If you are ‘Rambo’ and want to tackle paperwork and fees at each border as you get there, by all means have at it. If you take five years to prepare paperwork, visas, finances, and have your wife follow you in a van, then you have found what makes you happy and you do your trip.
The point is, very few people go around the world. These two wanted to do it but had to figure out a way to finance the trip and so the idea of a TV show was born, as an afterthought. They spent most of the trip trying to get away from the support crew to enjoy the ride, getting a sociology lesson in person, and just growing up, growing smarter and growing character.
If you read the book, you finally get to see some of what they so vividly wrote about. It’s not a Hollywood movie; it’s just a simple account of some of what went on. Need to read the book to understand.
It's real life adventure, and things get fustrating, they get angry at times, and as such, the "F' word is used. I'm glad it wasn't "bleeped out" as it would have made the entire story very dull. Some others thought getting a planning committee, a dedicated building for planning and having support vehicles were all hollywood "big buck" creations. If it wasn't filmed (taped) like it was, the viewer would never have shared in their adventure. (Those who DV tape their own motorcycle adventures know all too well the effort it takes) They had money to support the trip, so sit back and take the journey with them. Just don't plan to watch it all at once. It's a long journey around the world and it takes time. Try a couple chapters at a sitting. During the trip, they go on detours to different unique places along the way, and this really breaks up the constant riding of bikes, therefore most adults will enjoy the trip.
My wife and I are both bikers and enjoyed it so much that we waited for our upcomming anniversary to watch the final two chapters. We just didn't want their adventure to end! We'll watch it again, it's a keeper.
We enjoyed it, and thought it was one of the best DVD's we ever purchased. I'd suspect you'll finish watching it thinking the same.
Everything else is great, showed up on time in great condition, resealed used sold as new IMO but in like new condition so whatever.
The Long Way Down is very good but has a little more drama
The Long Way Round is the least good of the trio but it's exceptionally interesting watching them try to make adventure travel work with electric bikes.
Nothing compares to the original though, The Long Way Round is lighting in a bottle endlessly rewatchable with so many heartwarming details and moments. A nearly perfect travel show that is a must see for all adventure riders. Watching this show makes me want to get out and travel the world!
