The best part of my experience at my high school is the community. Whether it be the football games or school dances, school events are always a fun place to be with friends. These isn't something that has stood out to me that has been especially "bad". One thing I would like to see change in is a bit more safety. School fights are often a big problem at our school and I think there need to be more hall monitors during passing periods to help prevent that.
Administration has gone along with the trend of a 'participation environment', meaning no class ranks, no formal recognition for overall academic achievement. I believe this is counterproductive and unappealing for an academic institution. Administration has not gone to reasonable lengths to get students ready for the next part of life's journey, be it college or the workforce. Simple, reachable things like a '0 hour' that provides students with schedule flexibility needed to partake in arts classes while also taking a rigorous course schedule is not even considered. On the flip side, the school is safe, teachers communicate to the point of overcommunicating, and their is an awful lot of successes by the students to be proud of.
The building for East Campus was fantastic. I hope in the future that they combine the freshmen center with east campus. It would be nice to have all grades in the same building so freshmen could meet more upperclassmen sooner. Overall, I had a good experience at Lockport. I did not have a good relationship with all teachers, but I did feel like the academics were appropriate and lined up with my expectations for the courses.
The best parts of Lockport Township High School is the community within the school and how close people get with one another. I have met many good students and teachers who have helped me through the ups and downs throughout my 4 years here at this school. I would have liked if the teachers were more helpful with students in the classroom, instead of just assigning work that wasn't taught. That would be big help and have a better impact on the school.
Attending Lockport Township High School was surely a memorable 4 years. I am leaving high school prepared for college thanks to my teachers who have had guided and supported me throughout my classes, especially ones that gave me a challenge. I am close to many of my former teachers, one particular teacher who I go to for personal support and guidance on life. I had the privilege to play volleyball all four years and participate in one of the toughest conferences in high school. My coaches taught me more about the game and about how to handle tough situations. Lockport also has a variety of clubs for students to join and they are very flexible with allowing student athletes to join. I was a part of the Horticulture club that helped serve our community events. Even with the school having over 3,000 students, Lockport High School made everyone feel welcomed, with our motto, Together We Succeed.
Lockport Township High School I loved my time here as I felt wanted and needed at the school and felt as if everyone was involved in the community. The idea to be a Porter made my high school experience unique as it connected all the aspects of high school together, and the slogan "Together We Succeed" was prominent during my time here as I was offered many resources and support from teachers and administration, which led me to who I am now. However, I would like to see more school spirit at sporting events, as they bring the community together, and also to increase the variety of clubs that the school has to offer, which can help lead students to be prepared for college.
With this being my fourth year attending Lockport Township High School, I have seen many incredible actions taken on their behalf. I can remember being able to sit in on and live stream an emergency board meeting held this year. The topic of discussion was regarding a ceiling collapse at our central campus. The question up in the air was: where will the Freshman go to school while central campus was being repaired? It was incredible to see how quickly members of the school board were able to come up with a solution and make lemons out of lemonade. It became extremely apparent to me that day that the staff and board cares deeply about the well-being of the students at Lockport.
It is a very large, overcrowded high school where a student gets lost in the numbers. Teachers seem to be overwhelmed. I have had a high honors GPA for the last 3 years, and was never offered an honors or ap course until I demanded them for my senior year. Counselors are not very helpful or truly knowledgeable about colleges, unfortunately.
Lockport Township High School is a great school for many reasons. It is a very large school that can be overwhelming at first, but it helps to see new students in the halls almost every day. The school is also very safe with security, and really stands out in some of the academics, such as the STEM program. If someone was interested in joining a club, LTHS makes it very easy to find a club that suits them, as there are so many clubs people can be a part of. Me personally, I joined robotics club, and it was such a great experience to have. Although there are so many good things, I can also point out some room for improvement. Although most of the staff are caring of the students, I have heard complaints about other teachers from more than a couple people. Also, the sports are typically great, but as of lately, there has been a lot of changes when it comes to coaching staff and new players, bringing question if their teams will even succeed in their seasons.Overall, this school is great.
Overall, LTHS is a very good school and I enjoyed my time there. They have so many opportunities for kids interested in all different fields. They have a lot of programs with the local community college, Joliet Junior College, for many different programs. They have a lot of classes that cater towards the different trades, like welding and automotives. They also have classes for people interested in child development. One thing is I wish they would advertise the child development classes more.
My worst experience was probably the fact that gym is required for all four year therefore limiting the amount of classes I could take. The best part was the support you get from teachers
I overall liked the staff, they were light hearted and wanted the best for us. I do feel that we needed more time for passing periods. The school spirit was fun and engaging.
Great school and amazing teachers and coaches. They offer a lot of classes and opportunities to take advantage of.
I think over four years Lockport has been a great school in preparing me for college, and I have created long lasting relationships and memories here. The atmosphere is mostly positive and the most of the staff tries to help their students in the best way possible. Although work can be made to improve the education and learning to meet everyone’s needs, the school is a model example of a highschool.
the administration is great and safety concerns are not common, but when present are handled perfectly. the administration is great and they support the school as best as possible.
The best times I had there had to have been the Gaming Club (an after-school club that you play video games on a variety of platforms with like minded people) and SkillsUSA, a state/nationwide competition for many different categories. I entered two years in a row for 3D Design and Animation.
The worst has to be how it was there all four years. Every weekday, I had to walk through those maroon and tan hallways. It gave off a sense of dread or uncanny. It didn't give off the education vibe.

Overall, my experience at LTHS was great. Going through high school with a good chunk of it being affected by Covid was difficult but overall our school did a good job at navigating those obstacles and getting back to as normal as possible. The one thing that I would like to see change is the involvement of Guidance counselors with the students. I pretty much didn't know my guidance counselor all the way through high school. There is rarely genuine connections made there.
