The best parts include being in the Loara Band Family, the choir, and wrestling program. Being a part of the music program has encouraged me to continue and aim towards becoming a music therapist. It is also what led me to joining choir in my final year. Wrestling has helped with building discipline and not giving up. My teachers have all made impacts in my life, and just being at school is enjoyable. The friends I've made I hope will last a lifetime, being that we went through difficulties in each group. I think one thing I would like to see change in would be bathrooms and other facilities. I believe the problem may be the lack of punishment to kids who disrespect the campus, though they do it when there is no supervision. The staff are great and do what they can, the campus is usually kept clean and tidy.
Loara High School has amazing student involvement. Students there are encouraged to join sports, and go out of their comfort zone. Except the counselors sometimes restrict you from taking classes you're interested in, or dropping a class. I wanted to take online AP Euro History for my freshmen year, but my counseler did not let me because I was the treasurer for our Student Government class. My friend has also wanted to drop PreCalc H for mental health and academic reasons, but is restricted. Told that she needs to "try". Also the students often use the N-Word a lot, even when the majority of us are hispanic. School spirit is high though. Students however, have no repercussions for their actions. It is very easy to skip class, and security does not mind. Bathrooms have many students smoking. One of my friends was even offered to "hit", in the boys bathroom. I have not been offered, but I walk by the bathrooms, and it reeks of smoke.
Lora High School has been a very welcoming place for me. Not only have I been in band all 4 year, I also participated in numerous clubs but I think I got the most out of high school through band. I was able to find a second family while doing something I love; music. Band allowed me to meet hundreds of other band students from other programs that allow me to grow as musician. Overall, the academics and clubs at Loara allowed me to build my determination for what I want.
