There seems to be a division with Tubes fans. There are people who just like the "wilder" 1970's Tubes, and people who like them after this era (where they went "corporate"!). I like both eras, and I'm generally not into bands that sell out. I am ESPECIALLY a big fan of The Completion Backwards Principle. And one thing that's great about this concert, is that they play ALL TEN songs from the album! I've heard several concerts by these guys, but never had the visuals to go with the songs. I think it's safe to say there is no other band like The Tubes. The small studio audience doesn't seem to know what to make of this spectacle. I had no issue with the audio/video quality, considering this was recorded for German television in 1981. I think if you have reasonable expectations, there is a lot to enjoy here. Oh yeah, no White Punks on Dope, which I thought was a staple.

In the mid-Seventies the Tubes were one of the few bands doing something new and interesting. I still like their first album best. Subsequent albums were less good so I guess the band decided to go in a more commercial direction (they did deserve to make some bucks.) The album that most of this DVD covers is
perfectly enjoyable but too mainstream for me. Still they always were excellent live performers.

I was overjoyed to finally locate a Tubes DVD, and almost anything would have pleased me since there's not much out there. This DVD is excellent even thought it was recorded with 1981 standards. The video and audio are clear, and the show is very entertaining. I would have hoped for a few more songs from The Tubes first album, but now I'm being just picky! I think this purchase was well worth it.

Somewhere in the middle of their '81 tour, the Tubes broadcast their set for German TV. Raucous, rowdy and just before "Theme Park," this is who they were for all the world to see. An occasionally missed high note here and there doesn't spoil the fun, and the audience loves it. Devotees will delight in it.

il DVD riproduce uno spettacolo del 1981 registrato dalla TV tedesca dopo l'uscita di "The Completion Backward Principle", abbiamo qua The Tubes al 100% con la loro bravura, la loro ferocia satirica e il loro modo che potremmo definire "multimediale ante litteram" di fare spettacolo e rock'n'roll originale. Sarebbe bello avere una produzione del concerto coi sottotitoli in inglese. Qualità audio da broadcast televisivo, e quindi così così, che non fa capire appieno le sottigliezze degli arrangiamenti. Qualità artistica completa da una band purtroppo relativamente sottovalutata.

1972年にサンフランシスコで結成され、当初はグラム・ロック系要素が濃厚だったバンド。

　英米ミュージシャンの貴重な映像が残るドイツのテレビ番組『MUSIKLADEN』が仕切り、1981年４月24日に行われたスタジオ・ライヴ。

　個人的には1978年のアナログ２枚組ライヴ『ホワット・ドゥ・ユー・ウォント・フロム・ライヴ』にぞっこんだったので、似たようなプログラムでやって欲しかったのだが、やっぱりミュージシャンは新しいことを演りたいんだな。

　もっとケバケバしいコスチューム、ド派手な演出で展開して欲しかったものの、終盤「スシ・ガール」等のの下品な色物風企画は如何にもチューブスらしい。
　自動車業界を始め衰退するアメリカとは裏腹に、米国輸出産業の根幹の一つ大手映画会社や、不動産を次々買い占めて行くことになる日本への皮肉か。
　テレビが人間の赤ん坊を育てているようなデザインを、アルバム『リモート・コントロール』のジャケットに使うくらいの連中だからなあ。

　堕ちて行くアメリカ、進む方向を探しあぐねてしまうバンド。
　スタート時点ではグラム、プログレの範疇にも入れられたイギリスのロキシー・ミュージックとは異なり、アメリカのチューブスが大化けすることはなかった。
　だからこそ、ついつい推したくなってしまうのだよ。

I originally bought this concert on VHS and the video quality was crap but I was still happy to have it because it was always my favourite Tubes LP. This DVD is of “The Completion Backwards Principle” record. I was fortunate enough to see The Tubes live twice in my youth and they were always the most entertaining band ever. I saw them do this concert live back in the 80’s and it brings back many great memories. I am so happy to see this awesome concert on DVD finally and the quality is excellent for the time period. If you are a Tubes fan you will not be disappointed. Also if you are a Tubes fan The Tubes Live at the Greek "Remote Control" Tour '79 and Tubes live at Winterland Ballroom 2-21-75 is also available on DVD now.
