To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I love this DVD because it captures The Who at their absolute prime. It's a copy of the much celebrated Dec 1982 Final Concert of their North American Farewell Tour. Filmed at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens, this was the first concert to be broadcast live around the world. The band is in top physical and musical form, without the need for any backup players. True power trio. Only negative aspect has to due with the audio/video quality as it is quite grainy, as though pulled from VHS tape. Otherwise I's give it 5 stars.
I was hoping that the quality would have been upscaled over the VHS copy of this I already own, but it looks like the original VHS was simply scanned in...it was and still is a fantastic show...hoping it gets the treatment it deserves one day, but happy that I don't have to fire up a VHS player to watch this any longer :-)
I've bought a few DVD's about THE WHO's last concert in Toronto, and all of the DVD's that I've watched have a VHS quality look to it. I don't know why this is the case about this particular concert. Maybe the master tapes weren't recorded properly by THE WHO. I would skip on this purchase unless you really are a true WHO fan. The DVD quality resembles a Bootleg, but the Audio portion is recorded in Dolby stereo!
5.0 out of 5 starsMust be played in 5.1 sound to fully enjoy this!

Many reviews of the bad sound is true for 2.0 sound or played through a TV, but if you have a true 5.1 system, the 5.1 mix is very good and you get alot of separation. The video quality is very good, though it seems to have been transfered from a VHS tape, but the quality is still very good. The Who here is super tight, the give a steller performance! The set list is A+, rare songs live like "Love aint for keeping" and "Love reign over me". There are also a few songs from the "It's Hard" album as this was the albums tour. The Ox plays two songs, "Boris the Spider" and "The Quiet One". This show truly is fantastic! See the Who still in the prime in the second phase of their careers just a few years after Keith Moon had passed away. This show was originally filmed for HBO and I believe the audio was used for the now out of print "Whos Last" album. So dont let the bad reviews deter you from buying this. It sounds great in 5.1, the picture quality is very good but The Who are EXCELLENT!
5.0 out of 5 stars1982: la première tournée d'adieu des WHO...

4.0 out of 5 starsHistorisches Who-Konzert in leider nicht ganz perfekter DVD-Umsetzung

This is DVD of the Who Toronto concert is well worth having for your Who collection for a number of reasons.
You can buy any number of Who concert CD's and DVD's which feature mostly their back catalogue, but here they have been daring enough to divide the mix between old and new material.
I do like to watch a group playing their old numbers on DVD so I can play along to them and see how they play them and also to pick up any new arrangements they play.
The Toronto concert saw the Who at a pivotal point in their career where they had recently lost Keith Moon and brought in Kenney Jones on Drums and Tim Gorman on keyboards. This allowed the music to have a different sound than before.
Owning the 2 CD Who Ultimate Collection, I have the benefit of being able to compare the original CD studio tracks with some of the Live Toronto ones. There is a world of difference playing live as opposed to the Studio as I do both and although the music sound quality is not digital, it is nonetheless a small price to pay for great renditions of their work.
I would also recommend buying the CD version of this DVD.
The music on this DVD as I have said is a departure from the solid oldies show and was daring and works at a time when the group would probably have been derided for taking these new tracks out on the road, they illustrate that about 20 years after their formation, the group could still write and perform quality songs that would still be valid years after.
