There's not a bad track here, and I could listen to #8, Boz Scaggs' "Drowning in the Sea of Love" over and over because the song changes so many times throughout its length. I will not go into analysis of each song, other to say this live recording has terrific sound quality and presence. It's almost like beihg there. Most rock recordings are compressed sounding and inferior compared to jazz recordings. But the voices and instrumentals on this recording have great impact and the selections are very well performed. Don't miss the Brigati brothers singing old Rascals tunes. This is my favorite CD.

I particularly like the way that there is a nod to the previous generation of artists (Eddie Brigante, Phoebe Snow, Charles Brown) while allowing some serious talent of it's day (Fagen, McDonald, Scaggs et al) have a rip through some modern classics and songs from their own youth.
A great record and I'm very glad the essence of these ""Revues" was captured for historical purposes lest they be forgot

Derrière ce titre se cachent 3 grands noms de la musique américaine. D'abord Donald Fagen, en chef de revue, accompagné par 2 complices, Michael McDonald (j'adore ce chanteur) et Bozz Scaggs. En 1991 leur concert au Beacon Theatre de New York est enregistré. Ils sont entourés d'artistes soul de talent comme Phoebe Snow et Charles Brown. Bien sûr, ils reprennent certains de leurs classiques (Minute by minute, Green Flower Street...) mais se font aussi plaisir sur de bonnes reprises (Knock on wood interprété par McDonald et Phoebe Snow par exemple), des reprises qui n'arrivent évidemment jamais à la hauteur des originaux. Mais on entend que la soul, le blues et rhythm'n'blues coulent dans les veines de ces artistes, comme une évidence. Fagen, McDonald et Scaggs remettront ça en 2012 pour un concert intitulé The Dukes of September et qui existe en DVD (une hypothétique tournée passant un jour par Paris ne serait pas pour me déplaire!).
