Biography

  • Since her first release in 1983, Lita Ford has made a name for herself as a British-American Rock musician, with a Platinum certified album under her belt.

Lita Ford joined a rock band called The Runaways in the mid to late 1970s as a lead guitarist and was partly responsible for the bands signature sound. Unfortunately, the band broke up in April 1979, and Ford decided to pursue a solo career.

Ford released her debut full-length studio album entitled “Out for Blood” but unfortunately didn’t chart, however her sophomore album, “Dancin’ on the Edge” managed to achieve a little success at least charting in the Top 100 of the UK and the US, and even a Grammy Award nomination.

It was Ford’s third album that secured her place in rock history, which was simply just called “Lita”. The album was released on February 2nd 1988 and featured a collaborative single with Ozzy Osbourne on the song “Close My Eyes Forever” thanks to Sharon Osbourne being her manager at the time. The album reached number 29 on the Billboard 200, whilst the single managed to reach number 8 on the Hot 100. “Kiss Me Deadly”, also from the album managed number 12 on the Hot 100. The album was later certified Platinum by the RIAA.

On May 15th 1990, Ford released the album “Stiletto” which was recorded in New York City. It featured the single “Hungry” which reached number 14 in the US Mainstream Rock Charts, and number 63 in the UK. The album managed to reach number 52 in the Billboard 200. Following this album came “Dangerous Curves” which was released on November 12th 1991. This album produced the single “Shot of Poison” which was nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Female Rock Vocal Performance’ in 1993. Ford released a greatest hits compilation in 1992, which included some of her biggest singles to date and on Valentine’s Day in 1995; she released an album called “Black” which took her music in a completely different direction inviting influences from Blues and Grunge.

Ford didn’t release another album until “Wicked Wonderland” in October 2nd 2009. The album reached number 38 in the US Independent Chart.

  • Lita Ford

Lita Ford played a great show. I waited 29 years since the last time I had a chance to see her I wasn't able to make it. I have been a fan since the Runaways released Queens of Noise. Let me start with the venue. They were less than stellar. I just deleted a long explanation of how the venue failed because this is about the Lita part. Let's just say I had front row just off to Lita's left until I was pulled out to go for the meet and greet which was messed up and instead of actually spending any time with Lita and getting my original cover LP Out For Blood signed I got five seconds for a quick picture then bam and try to get back to your front row spot. I managed to get second row in the same spot. Not happy. When I met Lita I asked her how she was doing because she looked a little frazzled. She said "feeling pushed around." I told her "sorry about that." Instead of telling her I have been a fan for a long time and actually saw Gary Hoey open for Brian May when he was 17. Oh well. There were four opening bands which Lita commented on and was the reason her set was short... Given all that and the fact that her strings kept breaking which she said must be due to the altitude in Denver she still played like a professional and had a good time. I felt bad that she had to go through all that crud but she rocked. We even sang Happy Birthday to Pilgrim (sp?) as a way to wait for her guitar to be ready after re-stringing. I'd go see her again in a heartbeat. Great music and great lady!

  • I came to hear about Lita Ford in an interesting manner. I watched the Hollywood film The Runaways with Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stuart, and was compelled to find out more about their music. After falling in love with their metal rock, I was interested to see what Lita was playing nowadays, and was pleasantly surprised with her fresh heavy metal sound. Although she’s been playing solo since the 80s, I think her back catalogue of music is timeless, and really relevant to the charts today. Seeing the tour where she released and performed Living Like a Runaway was absolutely epic. It was great to hear her music return to its earlier routes and regain that real metal rock vibe about it. When Lita came onto the stage, you could tell that she’d only recently returned from her hiatus, as she was timid and a little awkward introducing herself. However, as soon as she picked up her guitar and her drummer counted the song in, she was back in her comfort zone, and began what turned out to be a phenomenal show.

Between the songs from the new album, she revisited some of her old hits and even did a Runaways track, although I didn’t know it myself. She was wonderful at engaging the audience, clapping her hands, encouraging singing along, and holding out the microphone to keen audience members. It was a pretty long show, and still I didn’t want it to end! Fabulous performance.

  • Lita Ford is an electric guitar wielding singer songwriter hailing from London, UK with the guitar skills and voice to match, to lure any rock audience in with her charisma and musical prowess. She made it big at first as the lead singer of the band, The Runaways in the late 70s and then branched off on her own to start her solo career in the 80s.

She rocks out on her BC Rich Warlock guitar, complete with tattoos and her flowing blonde hair, delivering these huge rock hits that were huge in the 80s. She is such an aesthetically pleasing performer, with the way she looks and the way she sounds. She brings the house down with her huge song “Kiss Me Deadly” which was a huge hit for the songstress in the late 80s. It is completely evident that this is what she was born to do with her talent being so organic keeping punters happy throughout the performance.

  • I've waited 30 years for the opportunity to see Lita perform live. She hasn't lost a step. Add in the quick anecdotal stories and it was an awesome experience. Unfortunately she wasn't with Halestorm this time as they had a Festival date in Orlando. A shame really because the opening acts SUCKED!

There's a difference in a local open mic night "band" (first act), a regional beer money band (2nd act) and a national touring act - then there's LITA F***** FORD!

The State Theatre dropped the ball on the opening acts for sure.

As for Lita, she was as awesome as you'd expect her backing band was really good, but you could have put her up there with anyone and she'd blow the doors off the joint.

  • The show was amazing! Lita shreds a guitar like nobody’s business! Energetic and engaging! The drum solo by Bobby Rock was awesome! Bass guitarist, Marty O’Brien was amazing. The Lead guitar and vocalist who sang Close my eyes forever was amazing! I was so excited to catch a pick at the end of the show!!

We loved being able to do a meet and greet, but wished we could have had more than the time to take a picture.

    Would go see her again!!!!

  • Lita gave a great performance Thursday night at Rams Head Center Stage. Loved hearing the songs from her most recent albums. (Like A Runaway was a really good!) She mixed the new with the old, including a couple of tunes from her days with The Runaways. Her lead guitarist was exceptional during the male vocal parts of "Close My Eyes". Overall this was a really fun show and I enjoyed finally seeing her perform.
