Glasgow City have sold World Cup star Linda Motlhalo to American top-flight side Racing Louisville for an undisclosed fee.

The South Africa midfielder, who joined from Djurgarden a year ago, set up the title-winning goal for Lauren Davidson on the final day of last season.

Motlhalo contributed four goals and seven assists in her City spell.

"Linda made a huge impact on and off the pitch during her short time here," said manager Leanne Ross.

"For someone so talented, a more humble and hardworking professional you will struggle to find. Although it's sad to see her move on, we are grateful to have played a part in Linda's development and wish her nothing but success."

Motlhalo scored South Africa's opener against Argentina at last summer's World Cup and became the first City player to reach the tournament's knockout stage.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Louisville as she returns to the National Women's Soccer League, where she previously played for Houston Dash.

"Glasgow City is not just a team, but it's a family. The first day I arrived here I instantly felt at home," she said.

"I cannot thank this club enough for everything it has done for me. The opportunities, the experiences, the highs and even the lows. I am honoured to have represented this football club."
