In his second film outside his native Iran, director Abbas Kiarostami maintains the mysterious, reflective mood of previous triumphs.

Francis j I must be missing something. The reviews I read seem to be mostly positive. I found this movie excruciating and wordy with not much to redeem it. Admittedly, the camera work was good but the storyline and acting fairly amateurish. Frankly,a waste of my time Sorry if this review does not resonate with most Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/01/23 Full Review William D Incredibly slow paced, the last third or so started to get interesting, but then the ending was pretty disappointing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/21/23 Full Review steve c Well kids. Don't lie. Be honest in your relationships or someone will call the police. Dat ending ... hmmm ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review dave s Despite not being shot in his native country of Iran, Abbas Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love is still a uniquely Kiarostami film. Set in Tokyo, it tells the story of a young girl who studies sociology, serving as a prostitute at night, and her non-sexual relationship with an elderly man who is looking for companionship, all complicated by the presence of the girl's horribly abusive boyfriend. While the story itself isn't as intriguing as some of Kiarostami's more notable works, it is stylistically stunning, as one would expect, filled with long takes that allow the viewer to read the faces of the characters, whose expressions and reactions to situations often explain more than the dialogue. The ending may be disappointing for some viewers, as is the case with many of his movies, but, as a whole and in many ways, Like Someone in Love is as rewarding and accessible as anything else he has done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I haven't watched a Kiarostami film in years, so that was a good opportunity revisiting his cinema, although this specific film is not as good as his 90s ones. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Slowest movie I have ever seen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Tony Rayns Sight & Sound The one thing that's for sure is that this masterly filmmaker is sufficiently open-minded to work wherever he chooses without compromising the integrity of his questions. Apr 4, 2018 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk Favouring long, oblique takes, this is 'slow cinema' so slow that, an hour or so in, even one of its protagonists nods off. Rated: 3/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman Like Someone in Love... is like a puzzle that takes an eternity to complete and yet still somehow contains too few pieces to be taxing. Jun 28, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A playfully intelligent feature, Like Someone In Love is certainly an enjoyable film, especially for those that are fans of Kiarostami's work. Aug 7, 2019 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row This is essential cinema, the kind of stirring, intelligent filmmaking that restores one's faith in movies. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 6, 2019 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie It's a humble, moving film that will seep into your skin and stay with you for days. The extended, stationary opening shot is an immediate jaw-dropper. Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
