"Lift Yourself" is a song by Kanye West that was released on his website on April 27, 2018, and later as a single on streaming platforms on April 30.[1] The song is known for its nonsensical lyrics including "poopy-di scoop" that comes after around one and a half minutes of an instrumental buildup.[2] The lyrics drew attention from media after its release, with some publications calling it a troll track.[1][3]
The track includes prominent samples of "Liberty" by Amnesty and "Boom-Boom" by Dancer.[4] The song was made for Drake at one point but after the Pusha T-Drake beef reignited that year, Kanye put the random lyrics on it to frustrate Drake.[5][6]
Background[]
The song, as well as "Ye vs. the People," were planned to be on LOVE EVERYONE which was cancelled after Ye's controversial TMZ interview on May 1.[7][8]
On May 25, 2018, Pusha T revealed that Kanye recorded real verses for the song and it was set to release on his then-upcoming album, ye.[2] However, this did not happen.
Lyrics[]
Hard to see, ooh
The hang ups we have today
Said we need to strive for more liberty
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself up on your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on
The hang ups we have today
Said we need to strive for more liberty
Lift yourself upon your feet
Lift yourself upon your feet
Lift
Lift your, lift your, lift yourself
Lift, lift your, lift your, lift your, lift your, lift, lift
Hard to see, ooh
The hang ups we have today-ay-ay
But they don't really realize, though
This next verse, this next verse though
These bars
Watch this some shit, go
Poopy-di scoop
Scoop-diddy-whoop
Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop
Poop-di-scoopty
Scoopty-whoop
Whoopity-scoop, whoop-poop
Poop-diddy, whoop-scoop
Poop, poop
Scoop-diddy-whoop
Whoop-diddy-scoop
Whoop-diddy-scoop, poop
