Z-Ro Needs More Help Me Please Songs
A good summary of this album is the spoken monologue Z-Ro delivers on the intro of Another Song. This isn't an album about southern flossing. Z-Ro definitely has an interesting, almost anti-mainstream appeal that has undoubtedly played a role in the development of his cult following. I don't think Z-Ro is all that unique as a rapper but he has the ability to string harmonies along that do very much stand out form typical southern rap. He does it better than the late, great Pimp C. The length of this album doesn't help. I'm also not a huge fan of Trae Tha Truth's rapping and prefer him in small doses. Ultimately, Z-Ro's strengths aren't very pronounced throughout the album and he reverts to another southern rapper with a deep voice.

Final Verdict: Not bad but doesn't warrant a whole listen

Z-Ro is one of my favorite rappers, and arguably one of the most skilled from the South. The amount of emotion and realness he puts into his music is unmatchable, and the fact that he also is a good singer and has an abundance of technical skills on the mic puts him above most other MCs. He also happens to be one of the most consistent rappers. Though his depressing subject matter can be a bit repetitive, the quality is good enough to keep this fairly long album from becoming tedious. He was also laced with dope beats. This southern classic is excellent from beginning to end with a tiny bit of filler. No other complaints about this one.

Best Tracks: Mo City Don, The Mule, Don't Wanna Hurt Nobody, Platinum, Help Me Please [★★★★★], Another Song [★★★★★], Everyday Samethang, From the South, Respect My Mind, Auntie & Grandma, It's a Shame

A few really good songs, like From The South, but too much mediocre.

Just another solid Z-Ro album. Last night I decided my Handbook was notably Z-Ro deficient so I decided to go ahead and remedy that a little bit. Unfortunately, I probably won't have much to say about most of them. Luckily, that's what ClintRuin is for. I started with Let the Truth Be Told simply because it has two of Z-Ro's most well known songs, "The Mule" and "1st Time Again". The former is probably the most popular single about big dick swingin' we'll ever hear, while the latter is more memorable these days for DJ Felli Fel making basically a carbon copy called "Finer Thangs" in 2009. As far as the pantheon of Z-Ro sad sack anthems, there's Help Me Please", "Another Song" and the inimitable "Respect My Mind", the hilarious gangsta interpretation of Sade's "Cherish the Day". There's a couple duds sprinkled in here but otherwise it's exactly what you'd expect from Z-Ro, which honestly couldn't ever be a bad thing as long as the production does its job. Normally I might have given this a slightly lower score but I spent three hours trying to wake up by reviewing this album and dipping back into sleep, so I've put myself through the mid-section of Let the Truth Be Told four times in about two hours and it hasn't gotten old at all. Z-Ro is just great, it's that simple.

I usually stick to mostly chopped & screwed releases, but I make the exception for Z-Ro - the most talented member of the Screwed Up Click in my opinion. While this is his highest rated album, I've got to say I think I actually like Life a bit more then this one. Let the Truth Be Told is loaded with great tracks, but also just as many average ones, which is sadly pretty common in the way too long digital age. Oddly a lot of my favorites are the more mellow soul / RnBish tracks, which Z-Ro has such a knack with like "Platinum", and my all time favorite "Everyday, Samethang". While two tracks I could be just as happy without would be "1st Time Again (w. Ashanti)" and "The Mule (w. Devin the Dude & Juvenile)" - after all these years I think Z-Ro is right, he's much better off all by himself.

"Entertained by my struggle and they'd love to see me die..."

Nothing short of a modern classic. Like many of his albums, it starts off like a gangsta party, with Z-Ro killing it over the "Paid In Full" Coldcut remix instrumental, banging bitches with Devin and Juvie and threatening your life with Trae and Lil Boss, but a few tracks later he's back in hell, with "Help Me Please" maybe being THE single most miserable song he's ever recorded. I could almost write a whole review about this track alone, it might be the most tragic rap song I've ever heard. The beat is a massive epic electric blues number, and Ro pretty much outlines everything wrong with his life in three verses, from spending every other summer in prison to all of his friends betraying him to just plain feeling horrible and down and out. The only ray of sunshine in Ro's live is, apparently, his cousin Trae, who he refers to as an "angel". Screw you if it sounds emo, how many other rappers would say something like that on a record? Exactly one. I can't even get into naming other individual tracks, the whole thing is superb, even the song with Ashanti is cool. The production is, again, phenomenal throughout the whole damn album. Because it's Rap-A-Lot, even the tracks that are basically the modern equivalent of '70s smooth soul ("Respect My Mind") have that massive low end thump that reminds you that you're listening to the same label that put out Willie D's _Controversy_. Some people claim Z-Ro is the current day, southern equivalent of 2Pac, and while I don't think that's 100% accurate, I will say that if Z-Ro IS the modern Pac, this album is his Me Against The World, with him coming realer than he ever has before over maybe the finest production he's ever received.
