This movie is a direct reflection of the history of China in the first 60 years of the 20th century. It is a mediocre comedy for the ones that are not familiar with how CCP started in 1920s, bled and fought the imperialism, feudalism, bureaucratic capitalism enemies for an unrealistic dream (communism), gained power through leading the fence-sitters (ordinary people) to fight for their rights, and eventually corrupted by the wealth and women they gained through the revolution. If you are interested in what happened in China in the 20th century, read a bit about it and come back, watch the movie again and I assure you a very different experience watching this movie. Also keep in mind that the director's hands were tied by the governmental review committee, I feel truly lucky to be able to watch the movie.
