韋凱 邱 masterpiece of sarcasm of China. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Lin K Best chinese movie ever Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Abo W The best Chinese comedy movie in the past decades - a lot of details worth a second thought. Let the bullets fly - under the premise of the right direction, you may not get the result you want immediately if you do anything, but as long as you are willing to persevere and be patient, you will definitely succeed. Effort never deceives. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Its a Chinese Western! And by that I don't mean a Western player by Chinese actors - but a movie which manages to marry Chinese nuances in the great spirit of a good old Western. Outstanding! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member It might be a bit confusing for westerners, and even for many Chinese, to understand the essential core that lies within the movie. This movie is a direct reflection of the history of China in the first 60 years of the 20th century. It is a mediocre comedy for the ones that are not familiar with how CCP started in 1920s, bled and fought the imperialism, feudalism, bureaucratic capitalism enemies for an unrealistic dream (communism), gained power through leading the fence-sitters (ordinary people) to fight for their rights, and eventually corrupted by the wealth and women they gained through the revolution. If you are interested in what happened in China in the 20th century, read a bit about it and come back, watch the movie again and I assure you a very different experience watching this movie. Also keep in mind that the director's hands were tied by the governmental review committee, I feel truly lucky to be able to watch the movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting is ridiculous, and only Chinese audiences knows the metaphor of this movie. Amy Taubin Film Comment Magazine Fast, broadly funny, and violent, it's also relentless in its manipulation of audience response. Aug 27, 2019 Full Review Henry Barnes Guardian Between the kung fu, the gunplay, a gentle romantic subplot and the extreme gastronomy - there's something for everyone.
