Here’s Your First Shot Of Tom Holland In ‘Uncharted’ As Young Nathan Drake

This article is more than 3 years old.

I have said previously that I will not believe the Uncharted movie actually exists until I am sitting in a theater watching it. But these days, maybe that means sitting at home watching it on VOD.

The pandemic altered plans to shoot and release the Uncharted movie, but it is in production and now, finally, producing the most actual promotional material we’ve seen across seven or eight incarnations of this film, which has been stuck in development hell for close to a decade.

As a refresher as to where we are, this is the final version that ended up with Tom Holland playing young Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg playing a somewhat younger Sully, and the whole thing is directed by Ruben Fleischer of Zombieland and Venom, who I believe is the fourth or fifth director working on a version of this project.

Today, Tom Holland posted a photo on his Instagram after doing his cutesy “will Sony be mad if I post this?” schtick that he did for Spider-Man. Here’s the full image below:

To answer a question I know you have, Tom Holland is 24, but it’s not clear how young his “young” Nathan Drake is supposed to be, as Holland looks younger than that, hence why he’s been playing a high school aged Peter Parker. So he could be 16-18 instead of his actual age. Nathan Drake, I believe, is supposed to be around 40 in the games.

Before this went up, a different photo was posted showing Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake, talking to Tom Holland, and it seems that he and Neil Druckmann came to set and talked about the film. Not sure if North may be in the movie to some degree, or if he was just visiting and offering some Drake-centric advice to the young actor. North was pumped about what he saw on set, apparently:

I have no idea how this movie will pan out. I like Holland, and I think he looks pretty good as Drake here. I am less enthused about Fleischer in the director’s chair, as I haven’t liked anything he’s done since Zombieland, though he did direct Venom, which falls into the “so absurd it’s kind of amusing” category. I just want this movie to have some personality to it like the Sonic movie, the only good licensed video game movie in ages, or possibly ever, and not be some generic, boring jungle adventure like we saw with Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider, which is one of the most forgettable action movies I’ve ever seen.

If these shots are coming out now, perhaps a trailer is on the way, but who knows what’s going to happen with the state of the movie industry where release dates are shifted every single week. Right now, the Uncharted movie is listed as coming out in July 2021, but obviously that is prone to change. Uncharted had enough of a hard time as a project before the pandemic, but it does appear to be getting somewhere after about a decade.
