Visited today the previous mentioned gaps in the fence have now been secured and there is no entry to the castle. This building is in a serious state of decay and would be unsafe to visit within the grounds. Due to the long distance on foot required to get to the castle I would say it’s not worth the visit just to look through the large fence.

You've got to be careful & there's a lot of trash, but what remains is a work of art - perfectly imperfect, for people who're interested in urbex anyway. There's a gap in the fence... go to the left for a more impressive view of the rubble - dare I say a slight reminder of Angkor... The right looks more like a drug den. It joins to the John Muir cycle path but a bit of a hill to the castle - between Clachan of Campsie & Lennoxtown.

It's a beautiful building to visit, just a shame we have idiots on this planet that think it's ok to vandalise these historic places. Leave them as you find them for others to enjoy.

It's fairly difficult to find. I parked in the housing estate campsie village, castle view and walked through the woods. You can see where others have walked. Shouldn't be too difficult to find your way.

Fabulous ruin, such a shame its in such a state there is a wee gap In fence to have a look round outside but no way to get in the actual ruins as boarded up or unsafe. Took about 20 mins to walk up as had children with me. Don't be freaked out like we were if you hear me shouting, quickly realized Celtic training ground was the other side. Well worth the wee walk

First time I've been here in about 18 years. Last time you could get right in amongst the building and climb the stairs. There is still a gap in the fence on the left hand side so I got in no problem. Very eerie

A hidden gem
If you want to get out of the touristy areas then this is a good spot. Take the bus from Buchanan bus station and just kinda find it on the map. It’s next to the Celtic training ground, and as soon as you get off the Main Street and on to the path, which you can find at the end of station rd., it’s a lovely walk out there too. It’s full of graffiti and signs of teenagers. But it’s quite a fun place. We bought some food at the co-op and had a picnic on a tree by the castle. We didn’t have a lot of daylight, and got there fairly late, but if the day is longer you can definitely go here and do a bunch of others things that day as well.

I must start with a disclaimer to my review. If you visit this place PLEASE have respect and leave no trace that you were there!

This amazing structure has been complete trashed. Rubbish and vandalism are seen everywhere at this amazing part of history.

We had a difficult time finding the right place to start on the trail so I will share our instructions.

When you arrive in Lennoxtown, take Glen Road to Newbridge road. You will cross a little bridge and immediately after the bridge on the right there are 2 parking spaces and a trail head (See photos). On the other side of the road is a park and a paved walking trail. Don't take the paved trail.
Follow the path until you reach the first turn off to the right. You will see a river. If you stay on on this side of the river and are heading uphill you are going the right direction.
Follow the trail and you will come to a semi-paved path. Follow that to the top and you will see the castle. It is probably less than a mile walk.

This castle must have once been a spectacular site. My heart hurt to see such a beautiful place in ruins and so disrespected by people's vandalism.

The castle is fenced off but there is a gaping hole in the fence.

I would love to see this beautiful place restored and used for something good.

Hard to find this castle as not sign posted and not on any road, we found it round the back of the football training ground. A bit of a hike and all fenced off when you get there. Has been a lovely building at one time but definitely not a castle. Mostly derelict and hardly anything to see. Not worth the effort.

I was born in Lennoxcastle Hospital "many" years ago and I have had an affinity with the place for a long time. Why I was born there and lived in Scotsoun in Glasgow I have no idea. After being married for a couple of years we managed to get a property in Milton of Campsie and have walked up to the "castle" several times over the years and the scenery is superb. One of the times that we were walking up to it a couple of deer jumped across us and carried on regardless, its that sort of place. My only regret is that when I heard that Celtic were planning on building their new training ground up there I spoke to an old friend, the late Tommy Burns, and contacted Peter Lawell of Celtic to suggest that the club take over the listed building and apply for planning permission to convert the castle as an hotel. The plan was that the club could make money by housing their opponents, European or otherwise, while they made use of Celtic's facilities. Needless to say this did not happen, and the building is now in a bit of a state.

Castle:
The structure left is incredible but a lot has fallen from the fire so you can really see inside. We couldn’t find a way through the back because the fence and there was only two entrances but it was so amazing to see. There was a part that you could go inside but my friend didn’t want to do if you do go inside let me know how it was. There was loads of 2 story shelves but I couldn’t see any further. There was a separate building just down at the front of the castle but we didn’t go to it.

Finding location:
So we parked at the Co-op in Lennoxtown and walked along but if you can park closer I suggest doing so. We got to East lodge and followed the path all the way to the end neighbourhood. Turn right here and it’ll take you past houses. When you come to around number 25 take the right path that brings you to Castle Circle. Walk to number 62 and that the small path across the road from it. Go straight ahead - the smaller path. This takes you through a field, continue up hill. It’s a small walk to the road. Go left up hill. The training grounds are close by, you’re walking around them. The road twists up and you’ll see the castle. At this point you are behind the training grounds. There is an entrance in the fence. There is also another one around the left side.

I’m sure there’s an easier route but we went through a hell of a lot to find this one, so I hope it helps you too. Remember that it’s uphill, so if you find yourself going down it’s the wrong way. The walk isn’t bad, but we did go on a day it poured down so just prepare for that. 100% worth it!
