Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Closed in 2002, went here in June 2021, the building itself is rich in history and its truly fascinating to learn about. As for the building, its a fun trip for urban explorers but the building is in pretty poor condition now, that being said there is enough to view and see that makes this trip worthwhile. Madness when you compare it to explore pictures done in 2007.

Keep walking up through the forest after the castle and you'll be treated to some breathtaking views aside of a mountain top as a added bonus.

A real haven for urban explorers. The building is now sadly fenced off. As other reviewers have mentioned that there are gaps in the fencing. The gap does exist, but probably not on an official capacity, so please stay safe and don’t do anything stupid because the building is in danger of collapse. I loved exploring this building, although I was careful to stick to the areas that looked safe. Most of the rooms have been gutted and filled with debris, although some of the rooms that are relatively empty were clearly wards. It's well attested the sorry treatment of the patients of the old hospital here, which evokes a sense of eeriness as I went about exploring. The paths leading towards the old castle are surrounded by woodlands and adds also an atmospheric feel to the whole visit.

First time I've been here in about 18 years. Last time you could get right in amongst the building and climb the stairs. There is still a gap in the fence on the left hand side so I got in no problem. Very eerie

Visited today the previous mentioned gaps in the fence have now been secured and there is no entry to the castle. This building is in a serious state of decay and would be unsafe to visit within the grounds. Due to the long distance on foot required to get to the castle I would say it’s not worth the visit just to look through the large fence.

You've got to be careful & there's a lot of trash, but what remains is a work of art - perfectly imperfect, for people who're interested in urbex anyway. There's a gap in the fence... go to the left for a more impressive view of the rubble - dare I say a slight reminder of Angkor... The right looks more like a drug den. It joins to the John Muir cycle path but a bit of a hill to the castle - between Clachan of Campsie & Lennoxtown.

I am a great fan of old buildings, especially ruins. Always wanted to find jewels like this castle. Must go if you are a fun of castles!

Currently, Lennox Castle is abandoned and in a sorry state. Built from 1837 to 1841, it retains some of the majesty of its former existence in an almost haunted way. The Castle and its grounds have had various uses over the years including mansion, hospital, maternity hospital, and accommodation for hospital nurses. The building has been derelict since 2002 and a fire severely damaged the castle in 2008. Any detailed exploration would require extreme caution.

Large areas of forest still surround Lennox Castle; the original grounds must have been huge. The area around the castle is peaceful with bracingly clean air and undisturbed nature in full display. Finding the castle required some research and local assistance. We got off the X85 bus at Lennox Castle stop (a roundabout not close at all to the castle) and walked over to nearby Village Green where we picked up the narrow trail to the castle. The trek was uphill and perhaps a mile but achievable even by this old man. GPS coordinates and Google Maps satellite views were helpful in pinpointing the building. Stepping somewhat into the unknown and uncovering the mystery of Lennox Castle was an adventure. We returned by foot to Lennoxtown via scenic back roads, a Scottish country road experience. The feet were sore but the heart soared!

The ruins are beautiful in a way but also sad too. Its future remains highly problematic given its terrible condition. Seeing Lennox Castle is a thoroughfare to imagination, thinking of what once was in its architectural magnificence and what might have been.

Super hard to find! Basically map for Celtic training ground. Just before the training ground you can see a bath on the left that has a no cars gate in front of it. Park your car near the training ground- walk up this path about a mile and you’ll come to it! Very eery, cool to see, fence gaps to sneak inside and have a peer about. A cool building!

Went here today with a friend, we are both support workers and 2 of the people we support actually came from lennox castle so we were so intrigued to see where they came from.

How to get there - if you drive to 62 castle circle and park your car
There's a path opposite side of the houses, follow the narrow path up towards a forrest looking bit, then go left you will go onto a road or what possibly used to be a road its a kinda twisty uphill road, 10-15 walk and you'll see the castle, there's a hole in the fence.

Castle:
The structure left is incredible but a lot has fallen from the fire so you can really see inside. We couldn’t find a way through the back because the fence and there was only two entrances but it was so amazing to see. There was a part that you could go inside but my friend didn’t want to do if you do go inside let me know how it was. There was loads of 2 story shelves but I couldn’t see any further. There was a separate building just down at the front of the castle but we didn’t go to it.

Finding location:
So we parked at the Co-op in Lennoxtown and walked along but if you can park closer I suggest doing so. We got to East lodge and followed the path all the way to the end neighbourhood. Turn right here and it’ll take you past houses. When you come to around number 25 take the right path that brings you to Castle Circle. Walk to number 62 and that the small path across the road from it. Go straight ahead - the smaller path. This takes you through a field, continue up hill. It’s a small walk to the road. Go left up hill. The training grounds are close by, you’re walking around them. The road twists up and you’ll see the castle. At this point you are behind the training grounds. There is an entrance in the fence. There is also another one around the left side.

I’m sure there’s an easier route but we went through a hell of a lot to find this one, so I hope it helps you too. Remember that it’s uphill, so if you find yourself going down it’s the wrong way. The walk isn’t bad, but we did go on a day it poured down so just prepare for that. 100% worth it!
