The Vampire Diaries Universe Will Continue Beyond Legacies: The Next Show Is ‘Just a Matter of When’
As the great philosopher Katy Perry once said, just because it’s over doesn’t mean it’s really over.
That’s certainly true for the Vampire Diaries franchise, which wrapped its 13-year run on The CW last night with the series finale of Legacies, its second spinoff after The Originals.
“This is the end of one chapter,” Legacies creator Julie Plec says of Legacies’ conclusion, “but we can use it to launch the beginning of another chapter, which is ultimately what we want to do when all is said and done.”
What’s this now? A fourth series in the #TVDU? We’d say don’t get your hopes up, but…
“There’s absolutely hope for the future,” Plec insists. “Brett [Matthews] and Kevin [Williamson] and I have an idea percolating in our brains that we just haven’t had the time to put down on the page yet. But we definitely want to do another branch of the tree. It’s just a matter of when, I guess.”
And why shouldn’t we get another chapter? Between the Pretty Little Liars reboot, the upcoming Teen Wolf movie and the new Gossip Girl, the early 2010s are clearly alive and well. Why not throw a couple of vampires (or whatever) into the mix?

Can we please have a Salvatore brothers show. Maybe show more in depth when they became vampires, the war, the history. Something in the past ages, not modern.
I could def see a time jump, but not at the Salvatore School, but someplace else dealing with this whole “gods” business and whatever else may come of that. Maybe with Jed and Ben, maybe not. Maybe with other “legacies” like a Bonnie’s kid, hopes cousin, etc. – supernaturals with loose ties to the rest but not close enough that it would be weird to see any of the old actors (if none want to show up.) Also, I am was never convinced there weren’t more hybrids like ethan out in the world, which would have probably been a feature of season 5 had it happened.
Keep the Salvatore School going they at to graduate add Elena and Damon kids to the school have a school reunion for all the cast in The Vampire Diaries for the ones that haven’t died so they can see each other again because who knows when they last seem each other bring Freya and Keelins kids in the Salvatore School and let’s not get started on Hope she’s got to meet Hayley’s side of the family there is some much more bring all of the new kids for The Vampire Diaries and The Originals into the next chapter nobody will who you’ll come in first it’ll be a mystery and now Caroline in charge of the school it’s her time to shine she can watch her daughters go through school and help Lizzie with her vampire side I hope to see the next chapter soon
I’d really like to see a Jed & Ben spin-off also featuring some Gods. You can’t just confirm the existence of Gods and Monsters and go back to Witches, Werewolves and Vampires.

I want something brand new. Like same universe. Same rules And all. Maybe about witch covens, like Gemini, Bennett etc. and connect it back to Bonnie and Lizzie and Josie. Or something along the lines of the far future where supernaturals get exposed. And give it a true blood kinda vibe. Idk I want new characters to explore and be developed but like they mention stuff within this universe like Hope being the Tribrid, the Originals, the cure, etc.
Lizzie and Josie blood line were intriguing when first introduced I definitely would watch more dealing with the Gemini coven and they’re dealings..
I’d watch watch that. Building new off the old and using the old as the history lesson. I could see it. It’s gonna need a bit more to play up to it, but I could see it.
That is worth watching. It keeps to the theme of the series – witches, werewolves, and vampires. All others introduced are variations of those or monsters introduced during a fight. Keeping true to theme of all main characters having one or a combination of these is what will make the spin-off feel like it’s from the Vampire Diaries universe.

Nina and Ian wouldn’t repises their roles much less play Delena together on screen because their real life relationship is basically non existent now. Zach Roerig I just read was arrested for an DUI 2 years ago and agreed to spend sometime in jail (The Article didn’t say for how long). I think Candice agreed to the finale because this was last ever appearance for Caroline because remember the character is forever 17 while Candice is already in her mid 30s. I can see Hope traveling to find new students to enroll. I can see Jenny being in the show too, but not too sure about Kaylee since she wants to explore new projects and not work with Alaric’s actor again because he made degrading comments about things like her ethnicity (She’s 50% Japanese and he has been very anti Asian ever since the pandemic took off)

I would love to see a spin off with Damon, Elana and their kids. Throw in Hope and a few other Legacy characters. Keep the monsters out, I’d like to have the “vampire diary” and “originals” feel back.

I’d love to see the super squad graduate and move on after a ceremony and see where life takes them and let hope become independent with new characters creating more of a suspense environment of different species as well as adding regular hunters again and new threats while getting her closer in a different relationship and let Landon do his own thing. While Caroline isn’t really in the picture except for school and doesn’t need to search for answers for her twins I’d like to know what Josie is up to and her taking her dark magic back and becoming somthing of it as well as maybe adding Damon into the picture as if Elena died and his kids moved on and he’s acting like a klaus. I remember adding the siren so maybe start giving more beautiful creatures faries since it was mentioned maybe more of a back story on fae and Josie or someone trying to attack them and maybe some mid evil times since dragons are kinda in the mix with a different form of werewolves from other countries.

im happy to read this cause for so long in legacies fandom just a big chunk were against the idea of monsters joining and id be fine if they were all honest but differing opinions but that wasnt the case, some felt the need to fib about why they didnt belong.
I call it the kingdom of the crystal skull effect, basically to the people who disliked that indiana jones movie cause aliens came in yet an immortal guy with a cursed cup, a magical box that held nuclear power and a guy who could tear through someones heart like it was clay and the victim still ticking after thats totally fine
well that formula applied to some legacies fans for vampires, werewolves, witches, dopplegangers coming and out of time, magical curses, etc, thats totally fine but dragons, fairies, etc was too much, it wasnt serious and it wasnt mature that is what alot of fans said
I only agreed on malivore criticism for I liked him as a character but his appearance was too unbelievable even for fantasy, like a sentinent puddle of mud/walking playdoh man that was portrayed as nearly unstoppable. And yes I understand the significance of golems in real life culture but they could have handled it better.
I’m totally down. But I need to finish Legacies first. I’m like two seasons behind.
Well, I think it would be cool to have the few off the origin story as it was in mystic falls , Like elena and Damon some how find themselves in Louisiana with the few orginals that or left an Alaric and lizzie an josie an the super squad show up in Louisiana not far behind elana and Damon on the doorstep of the Michaelsons house. The story will be that everyone receives a note tellin them to be at that location on a certain day. The note says , What if u could have back the ones you lost? Be at this address on this date. And whenever everyone shows up ,Something apears from the ground like a ghostly figure and that be how the new spin off starts with them all relisin it is Bonnie Bennett, as a Ghost tellin them that she is at peace with all there love ones an she found a way for them all to live.
They HAVE to continue the series. I binge watch and rewatch and rewatch again because it’s that good! Don’t leave us hanging. They’re my favorite family of all time. Even though I feel like legacies should have been a 8 season show…. The shows get better and better. Just want more of hope!

I would love to see a spin off about Damon and Elena’s kids maybe they join up with Hope and other characters from legacies. Ian and Nina won’t reprise their roles and they wouldn’t have to they can photoshop pictures of them and that’s all they need.

Imo this franchise is nearly milked the cow dry so to speak, I mean does it really need more material and more chances of filler? That isnt me being pessimistic its being a realist.
If by some miracle they continue it, its either what is left of cw continuing on hbo max, or shop to another channel or continue in book form. No way they would try to do a theatrical movie, these YA fantasy movies dont have a great track record outside of twilight and harry potter.
It also hurt me when I read they still wanted to use alaric and landon and I like them to a point but I was ready to be done with them a bunch of times already. They needed to bring in new characters or past characters who had untapped potential like clarke, jade, wendy and maybe malivore.
They can try and milk it but I don’t think they are gonna have any takers in getting it picked up. Cw is about to be under new management so that’s out of the option. Warner brothers owns the franchise so hbo max is an option, but since hbo max didn’t save legacies or pick it up I don’t think they would want a new franchise when they passed on legacies. Netflix has its own problems going on. So good luck to them. Plus in another article Julie was talking about how the spin off would be in a new place, different state, different character. Who wants a new franchise that doesn’t even connected to the others. The best part of the tdvu was it all sorta went together like a trilogy
I also read something in the past few hours, apparently the legacies finale didnt get alot of viewers and this was a finale that teased klaus return, the one character whom a bunch and I mean bunch of fans asked for years and got it, I mean to me it seemed no matter what they did, it still wasnt getting in alot of fans, season 4 was a HUGE improvment in the writing compared to the first 3 seasons and it got the worst viewer numbers not just of the show but the franchise. And that makes me sad cause the writers deserved to be rewarded for their improvements. And there is this savelegacies campaign but Im telling ya its a vocal minority kind of thing, I dont think there is as many people wanting legacies back as some of us may think.
I honestly have no idea how much longer cw will be on the air, Im somewhat out of loop once this nexstar buys it, idk what happens to their programming just rumors they plan on getting rid of these types of shows and doing reality shows cause its cheaper.
I mean the fact julie is doing two supernatural shows that arent on the cw is a red flag this networks future isnt looking good.
yeah that part made me scratch my head cause her and brett say oh yeah we plan in our heads to do a season 5 but also another spin off in another location with other faces which is like huh?, dont you want to get legacies mapped out first and then maybe worry about spin off later?, but Ive learned julie and her writer friends are the ultimate just make it as we go along writers circle, their intended endgames rarely ever happen so no wonder another spin off is “in the works” cause they dont even know a “true” ending for legacies.
And the further they get away from established characters the less like tvdu it becomes. I heard two rumors over the years of what this supposed spin off would be about, are you ready for it?, a witch centered show taking place in the big city…..oh where have I heard that before, yeah the originals, sure it wasnt all just witches but characters like freya, davina, sophie and vincent carried the show on the side plus witches are so overdone not just in tvdverse but in fantasy tv shows, them and vampires, im a bit sick of them.
And lastly there just isnt enough material to tell for many more seasons and spin offs, as much as I wanted to see the continuation of the gods arc, it wasnt exactly a new idea and it felt forced, I only welcomed with open arms a bit more cause we had up to that point in terms of antagonists on the show-pointless monsters( cool looking but pointless), a poor mans klaus, an annoying witch(played by a very good actor though), a chicken**** secret society, a few emo magical kids, an overrated flip switched tribrid, a 1000 year old vamp who was just nice to see cause of nostalgia but nothing beyond that. Malivore is the best villain we had prior to ken and he wasnt a great villain, he was just better than 99% of what we got when he was able to actually do things and not be a puddle.
The only channels I could see pick up legacies realistically is freeform, syfy, or one of the wb streaming channels like hbo max. No way it gets put on a big channel like abc or hbo or cbs.
The basketball got like 13 mil views but walker got normal ratings sooo.. I know from twitter a lot of the younger kids watch it illegally. but legacies got its normal amount of views last night. I just think they thought it would get more with it being the end of the franchise. They were hoping to rank in people who don’t watch to see a final glistening and klaus and Caroline. Legacies finale did do better in the demo then the kung fu finale. Kung fu finale demo was 0.05 with 0.422 viewers and legacies did 0.09 demo with 0.412. It was pretty normal rating for them. The rating was pretty steady for them last night. 4×19 got a little more views but last nights was pretty steady, higher then most of the episodes this season.But I’m sure they were hoping for a higher rating with people that aren’t normal watchers.

because global viewers isnt a thing apparently, I have no idea if cw is even on other countries and if legacies played there, one friend of mine says they see it on hbo max and the other says they see it on a torrent
apparently the cw only cares about numbers they make via streaming on their site yet ive never heard a single person tell me those numbers, for some reason they are kept private and we get the pointless numbers instead
I’m fine with how it ended. Cuz they kept saying a season 5 would of been a big time jump like maybe 5 years and they r all away from the school and somehow find their way back. And in my head I’m thinking hope literally just spread her fathers ashes at the school so he will always be with her and the next season would pick up with her away from the school. Just sorta made me laugh. And if the season 5 happened it woulda been more limbo and Landon and hope drama of getting back together. So I’m sorta glad it ended how it did. Just wish we had this kind of stuff in early seasons. Would of loved more time with tribid hope. More of hopes story not so much how Landon is always somehow involved in that. And Cleo being the new headmaster in the future. Always thought it would be hope or one of the twins taking over .

What I found dumb but inevitable would happen is them needing to choose a headmaster, now a headmaster is someone who has final say and governs the school, yet how many times did we see the students rebel against alaric, making his position worthless. Not to mention as stated a million times just cause he had experience in the supernatural doesnt mean he was fit to control it, they finally own up to that in finale. And on top of that alaric never had a true storyline going for him apart from he getting out of limbo thing, he was just there to be there but his character had dried out even before the time of the friggin legacies pilot

I agree with you about wanting a new spin off/characters to connect with the previous shows somehow. It couldn’t be a branch off without some kind of center ion to past shows or characters…..but, I’m not ready to be in a world without some kind of VD spin off! Come on Julie Plec….give it to us!!

I like your idea about Freya. The actress has been bouncing around shows like ChiMed and Roswell and needs ro get her own vehicle where she can shine.
Speaking of Jed, is his curse reset or broken or is it possible that he got pregnant by Ben during their first night together after Landon brought him back from the dead that lifted his curse for the time being and could God magic had a role in that?

I would absolutely love for The Vampire Diaries universe to continue!!! It should always in some way be a part of television’s future as much as it is apart of its past and present, and how it will always be a part of our lives!!! Whatever the next installment will be, may I formerly ask if I could play a part in the making and the continuing of television history?!!! I would love to see what happens now with Caroline running the school. And Damon and Eliana’s daughter visit the school. And something with Bonnie maybe she makes contact with Enzo or even bring him back. I love everything about TVD and TO and Legacies. Please continue on with the story line of Hope and the rest of gifted.
Hell yea preferably, hope or Caleb and Cleo or I would actually watch a MG and Lizzi story. Or even a miracle for Hope and Landon to find away back to each other some how. Or instead of it being called legacies call it Salvatore that way we can see what happened with Caroline as head master. And how the older supernaturals become mentors and actual teachers for the new generations. To me that would be cool. If I had the opportunity I would definitely want to be apart of that cast.
