‘A good omen’: Ledley King reacts as Milan next for Tottenham in Champions League

Ledley King has told BT Sport that he hopes the 2011 win over AC Milan could be a “good omen” for Tottenham after Antonio Conte’s side were drawn against the Serie A side in the last 16 of the Champions League, on Monday.

Spurs finished top of a group they were expecting to win. A late Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg winner saw Spurs beat Marseille 2-1, to finish above Eintracht Frankfurt. Sporting Lisbon notched third place and will go into the Europa League.

Marseille crashed out. Now, Spurs take on Milan. The first leg will take place at the San Siro on either February 14 or 15, before the return leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 7 or 8. King was in attendance during the draw.

As an ambassador for the club, the Tottenham legend then spoke to BT Sport following the draw. He thinks it is a good draw for Spurs and one they can win – and thinks Peter Crouch’s winner against Milan in 2011 could be a good omen.

“Excited, definitely. Milan are a big team, history. A team that my team played in the Champions League. Hopefully 2011 will be a good omen. No team was going to be easy. A good draw, playing at home in second leg will be vital.”

Every Spurs fan will remember the match. Not just for Aaron Lennon’s incredible run past numerous Milan players before squaring to Crouch to score, but also for Gennaro Gattuso’s headbutt on Joe Jordan. Tempers spilled over.

Can Tottenham win? Micah Richards says he would be backing Tottenham but only if the likes of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min are all fit for the clash. Milan are flying high in Serie A, sitting in second place.

Franco Baresi believes that Antonio Conte could be the key for Spurs. Given, his knowledge of Italian football and the Serie A. It is a draw that could have been worse, but could have been better. Spurs will have to be at their best to win.
