What an underrated Gem

I heard of Fenix FX a few years ago while finding some bands I haven't listened to. I couldn't really get into them until this year. I'm 22 years old and I love listening to Blink-182,MXPX,SUM41,ADTR,Green Day,NOFX,Bad Religion,No Use For a Name,Lagwagonand many other bands. Dude Ranch by blink-182 is my favorite album of all time and blink-182 introduced me to the American Pie series which my favorite movie series of all time. My second favorite movie series of all time is Revenge of The Nerds. I decided to smoke and listen to some albums I didn't give the chance to before. This album popped up on Spotify and I was intrigued but not expecting much. As soon as I heard the harmonization that they had in the choruses I was all in during the first song. The songs are not only good lyrically, but the blend between the vocals and instruments adds to it as well. This is for sure a punk album more than a pop punk album. Not only are the lyrics punk but some bands struggle to make their band sound punk so they take the easy route by adding a little pop to catch the ears of non punk listeners. They took the risk and obviously succeeded at doing so. I love the cali/punk/suburban vibes that I got after my first listen that I repeated the album 9-10 times that day because of how good it is. Every song has their charm and that's what I love about every song sounds different but had a nice and catchy ass chorus that seemed to be better than the previous songs. My favorite songs are Flight 601,Surf Song,All My Fault,Ben, Philosophy,No Lie,Apple Pie Cowboy Toothpaste,and Rooster song. While these are my favorite songs on the album this album is a big unskippable one for and exactly what I've been looking for as far as albums I haven't listened to. This album is now one of my favorite albums of all time. No Lies and Apple Pie Cowboy Toothpaste tops it off though. No lies has a fast, chaotic skater park,high school vibe that I rewinded ten times before Apple Pie Cowboy Toothpaste. The messages in the lyrics are relatable, clear and don't seemed forced or overly used which is what some punk bands do and it's a turn off for me and I love it a lot. In Apple Pie Cowboy Toothpaste I immediately got a high school/college Party vibe especially with the chorus which surprised me considering that there's not a music video to the song. But what made the song pop was when they played a rap from Revenge of the Nerds which I didn't realize I til a few listens later. But this is an excellent album and I love how fast paced it is especially compared to Dude Ranch where a lot of the songs were good but on the slow side. This album is pretty much a spiritual successor to Dude Ranch. And Punk lovers would've love if blink-182 would've went this route instead of Enema of The State.I wish I would've listened to this album sooner especially when I was in highschool. Better late than never and I'm glad that it wasn't never. For any teens reading this review and want to get into punk music this is the album that should really start you off.

If you sick of the whining and posturing that comes from those oh so bad boy hardcore punk bands and want something fast and fun, this is a great CD. Yeah, Fenix TX plays a style that is similar to Blink182, New Found Glory, Ataris, MxPx and the rest of the pop-punk bands. That doesn’t mean they’re a Blink clone in any way, and truthfully they aren’t. Just because the bands play a similar STYLE of music, does not make them clones. I wish more people weren’t so narrow minded and short sighted. The CD is hilarious and the songs are catchy. When you get it and put it in your CD player, you’ll probably end up listening to it over and over again. “All My Fault” really is the best song on this album. Some of the better tracks are “Jolly Green Dumb***”, “Minimum Wage”, “Rooster Song” and “Surf Song” but the entire CD is really strong. I think what I love most about this band is their irreverence towards everything and their sense of humor. It’s great stuff, and if you like this type of music, this CD is definitely worth the cost.

One to watch

I think these guys are even more irreverent than Blink 182. I had to buy this CD after listening to my brother's copy of their independant release, when they were known as Riverfenix (they had to change their name because of a lawsuit brought on by River Phoenix's estate). This CD is a little more polished than their indie release. It has a majority of the songs that were on the indie release (with the exception of Skinhead Jessie), but some of the songs I liked on that version that were good were cut. I gave this one four stars because some of the songs sounded better on the indie version than on this one. Anyway, the best songs on here are All My Fault, Minimum Wage, and The Rooster Song is downright hilarious (That ain't no chicken! That's a big...). I don't know how this can compare to the likes of Blink 182, since their sound is more hardcore than Blink is. Anyway, this is one band you'll want to keep close tabs on if you like Blink 182. They're going to be big. Also, if you like Fenix, be sure to download their version of "Feliz Navidad". It's hilarious. Can't wait to hear their next album.

GREAT FOR POP PUNK

I'd expect people who listen to Nofx or BR to have the intelligence of knowing not to touch this CD. But for those pop punkers out there, this CD might be for you.
All My Fault, Minimum Wage and Jolly Green Dumbass are great songs. The Surf Song has got the be the worst song I've ever heard tho. So some you might like, some you might not.
Remember, their second one is better, and they have broken up.
P.S.: I gave this 4 star b/c of the Surf Song. It is really THAT bad, even for a pop punker.
