Corbin's Bend Season Two #9

Learning to Live Again

Rate this book
Tired of increasing chaos in his family life and the distance that is growing between him and his wife, Lainie, Grant Taylor decides the only way to save his marriage is to get back to the domestic discipline lifestyle he grew up with. When he finds Corbin's Bend on the Internet, he is certain it is the perfect place for them to start over.

Exhausted and tired of juggling everything herself, Lainie reluctantly agrees to her husband's suggestion. However, she is new to the lifestyle and more than a little uncertain about it. To make matters worse, their 15-year-old daughter Kathleen is convinced they had moved her into some kind of weird spanking cult. She is miserable and not at all shy about letting everybody know it.

Will moving to Corbin's Bend be their saving grace, or will it be the final straw that tears them apart?

Lainie and Grant Taylor have a marriage that has been on the rocks for years. Drifting apart was easy when two people live completely separate lives, never at home, when they are everything being perfunctory. Grant, coming from a DD lifestyle knows that this could be the pick-me-up their marriage needs, and the structure and expectations that would make his family a happy one again.

Lainie isn’t so sure when DD is suggested. She had never been spanked as a child, and why start now? She was a grown adult! But knowing there needed to be a drastic change to keep their family together, she reluctantly agrees, and even agrees to move the whole family to Corbin’s Bend to give the lifestyle a chance at being the hope that she so desperately needs.

This book hit so close to home. Any couple that has been married, with children, for 10+ years will so be able to relate! The way Staunton describes the life of the , makes you feel like she is talking about you, the reader. The scenes are vividly depicted, from benevolent teenagers and how they are handled, to the disciplines between husbands and wives in the community, and the amazingly described romantic scenes, this book is one you don’t want to miss!

THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME
As with each of the Corbin's Bend books, this one can read as a standalone. Each book introduces new characters and has others from the community from previous stories. Grant and Lainie Taylor have been married for many years with two teen/preteen-aged daughters. There life is in a rut, they aren't happy and admit that things have got to change to save their marriage. Grant was raised in a domestic discipline household and wants that kind of structure in his marriage. Lainie came from a broken home, no discipline but no happiness either. Changes must be made. Doing research on how to add DD to their marriage, Grant learns about Corbin's Bend, and they investigate and decide that is where they need to be. But this couple has never practiced a DD lifestyle and it is all new for both of them. Throw in one rebellious belligerent troublemaking 15 year-old, and trouble is brewing. This story brought out many excellent points from the DD lifestyle and what is perceived by outsides. It is a loving, structured relationship with rules and consequences, not violence. Has their daughter, Kathleen's actions put this family and this community in peril? How can a community of people who practice a safe, sane and consensual lifestyle of domestic discipline help a confused teenager to understand the differences?

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

The Players: Grant and Lainie Taylor, a couple who have been together for over 15 years who are increasingly frustrated with their lives and with their children.

The Story: Grant was raised in a DD household and had talked about having the same kind of marriage with Lainie. Except that it doesn't happen. Life gets in the way and now 15 years later, he's having second thoughts about it. His kids are brats and his wife is seemingly disinterested. At Grants suggestion, Lainie agrees to try DD, but neither of them have a clue on how to go about it.

Plot: I think the author had a great plot outlined but to me it was wasn't fleshed out very well. Two people who are new to the lifestyle suffer growing pains without any real connection to DD or what it should be. The children were one-dimensional and the resolution of one of the central plots wasn't detailed but rather took place "off the page".

Part of a Series: Yes, Corbin's Bend Season 2

I have read all the books in both Corbin’s Bend seasons; this was only the second book I haven’t liked. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and I was honestly just bored the entire time I was trying to read. I felt sorry for Grant at times, his wife drove me nuts and his daughter, Kathleen, was a brat. I just couldn’t get into the story or the characters. I am sure others loved this book but it just wasn’t working for me this time.
Characters: I couldn’t connect with any of the characters
Sex: not descriptive
Religious: no
Would I recommend to others: yes
More than one book in the series: yes
Genre: Spanking/Romance
Would I read more by this author: yes

This latest story about life in Corbin's Bend starts in N Carolina. Grant was brought up In a DD household, but work and more work has him lap waving his wife Lainie to make all the decisions at home. He suddenly decides that it is time for a change and discovers CB online. The family move there and we watch the consequences unfold. We get to read about some old friends, but mostly the story covers a family's acceptance of a new lifestyle.

It was a very different story as the drama revolved around a reluctant teenage daughter, Kathleen.

Corbin's Bend keeps getting books by amazing authors to add to this collection. Learning to Live Again is no exception and a great book to add to the series.

This is the next installment in the Corbin’s Bend series.  I love reading about this community!  Grant and Lainie have been married for over 15 years, but their marriage is in trouble.  Lainie is tired of doing everything and Grant is tired of being shut out of his family’s lives.  Grant decides to go back to his D/d heritage and starts to do some research online. He discovers Corbin’s Bend during his research.  Grant speaks with Lainie about starting a D/d lifestyle again.  They had discussed it when they were firs married and Lainie agreed, but it fell by the wayside over the years.  She is hesitant to start again, but she agrees because something needs to be done.  She even agrees to move to Corbin’s Bend.  But their 15 year old Kathleen is furious over the move and does everything that she can to sabotage their life there.  There are a lot of questions answered in this story about the lifestyle and how it is put into action. I was a little worried about how the author would deal with the teen daughters, but she did very well.  I really liked this story and I give it 5 stars.

I had a really hard time with this book, and even now I’m not really sure what it was that I wasn’t able to connect with.

I enjoyed the characters, I thought there was a good balance between Grant and Lainie. I really liked how Ms. Staunton created characters that are brought into the domestic discipline lifestyle later in life. Granted, they had thought about it in the past, but actually living it? That didn’t start till later. And I thought it was great how realistic Ms. Staunton made the transformation in the relationship. It wasn’t a completely easy switch, it was one that was rough, and we were able to follow along with the journey.

I do feel like this is a great addition to the Corbin’s Bend Series, and that Ms. Staunton has made her book stand out from the rest of them with the differences in her book. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy this genre of books.

This has landed itself on my favorite's list. I love how realistic this book is from the parent & teen relationships to the transition into a DD relationship. I loved the loop Kathleen threw for Grant and Lainie because it was as real as it gets! I hope author Ruth Staunton writes a sequel to this novel. I would love to see how Grant and Lainie are doing a year from now! I enjoyed getting to know other sides of existing Corbin's Bend characters as well. Bravo, Ruth, this was a book well done!

Kind of nice to have the perspective of an older couple that are just finding their way around to the whole domestic discipline. Also, having the view from the teenager who sort of thrust into the community. We also get a different view of the discipline board as well. Great addition to the series.
