This film is a mockumentary on the world of youth dance competitions. Its film crew follows the Sashay Dance Academy's four senior dancers and their respective support network the day before and of the annual Leap 4 Your Life dance competition. The Academy is led by the authoritarian Maureen, its artistic director who needs her students and thus her to win at any cost. Hilary, arguably the most talented, knows that she is, with her and her mother needing to portray their world as being one of tasteful perfection, which means being outwardly humble even if being inwardly not. Showperson Brooke would rather be a country singer, much against the wishes of her proverbial trailer trash self-absorbed single mother Darcy, who chases anyone with an X and Y chromosome. Matt, the token male of the team, only joined in being able to be close to girls, often in a near state of undress. Matt's father, Dan, is in a state of unawareness both of Matt's straight sexual orientation and of the poor and declining quality of his marriage to Matt's mother, Katie. And exuberant Molly is the stage filler, she and her equally exuberant mother Danielle both unaware of her lowly status on the squad.
