Lawrence Taylor’s sex offender violation is all because of divorce: lawyer

Lawrence Taylor’s recent arrest was a simple mixup, according to his attorney.

Last week, the Giants legend was arrested for sex offender violations pertaining to not alerting authorities of his new address.

According to his attorney, Arthur Aidala, Taylor’s address change was a suggestion from local authorities.

“Sadly he is in the middle of a divorce and his local police department suggested it would be best if he slept at a nearby hotel,” Aidala told the AP. “Mr. Taylor was constantly a resident of the marital home where he was registered, but on advice of local law enforcement he was sleeping outside the home. We are confident that this will be resolved favorably for Lawrence at the first court hearing.”

Taylor, 62, was booked to Broward County jail in Florida on Thursday, and released shortly thereafter on $500 bail.

Accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl, Taylor pled guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in 2011. He had to register as a sex offender and was given six years of probation.

Taylor’s other previous arrests include a DUI in 2016, and leaving the scene of an accident in 2009. During and after his playing career, he battled drug addiction issues, failing multiple drug tests for cocaine as a player and also getting arrested on multiple occasions seeking to buy narcotics.

Taylor was one of the greatest players in NFL history. He played linebacker for the Giants from 1981-1993, recorded 142 regular season sacks and was a driving force on the team’s Super Bowl victories in 1987 and 1991.
