Midfield maestro...
Experienced attacking midfielder Laura Coombs joined City in June 2019.
Coombs brought with her a wealth of domestic experience, having represented Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea (amongst others), helping the latter to a league and cup double in 2015.
An ‘aggressive, box-to-box midfielder’, she had also competed in America’s W-League with the Los Angeles Strikers.
She had started life with Charlton Athletic, then Arsenal’s academy and spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and in LA before joining Chelsea in 2011.
After loan spells with Barnet, a second jaunt with LA Strikers and Liverpool, she moved to the Merseysiders permanently in 2017.
Upon moving to City, Coombs soon made a name for herself as a technically-gifted and selfless player with an eye for a spectacular goal.
She scored three sensational efforts in succession in the 2020/21 campaign and flourishing under Gareth Taylor‘s stewardship, helped City to FA Cup glory at Wembley in November 2020.
Her impressive displays earned her a recall to the England squad and she was handed a new contract with her club in the summer of 2021, while more silverware with City followed in the Continental Cup the following season.
Coombs headed home from close-range to earn City a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in December 2022 - a match witnessed by a women’s record 44,259 supporters at the Etihad Stadium.
In February 2023, the midfielder signed a new two-year contract extension, committing her future to the Club until the summer of 2025.
And a memorable campaign continued when she was recalled to the England squad for the first time since November 2020 ahead of the Lionesses’ successful defence of the SheBelieves Cup.
