About
This famous Left Bank neighborhood, so named because the numerous university students in the area spoke only Latin to their professors until the French Revolution, preserves an authentic Parisian atmosphere of old.

- Angelo ZEvant, Texas300 contributionsLatin QuarterEnjoyed a couple of days of wondering around the Latin Quarter as it was next to where we stayed in St Germain. So much history in the area the Sorbonne and Pantheon to name a few. Interesting shops and great bars and restaurants. Neighbourhood that's a rich part of the history of old Paris.Visited April 2023Written May 9, 2023
- sunflower35636 contributionsAmazing neighborhood. My husband and I rented an apartment for two weeks in the Latin Quarter in May 2023. It was a wonderful neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants, but located in an area where you can walk to many other places and explore. It was fairly quiet at night, and we felt very safe. We will definitely make the Latin Quarter our "home base" on our next trip to Paris.Visited May 2023Written June 8, 2023

Lots of shops, restaurants, and sites to see and visit. Take your time and enjoy the walk. Just be mindful of careless cyclists and cars.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 6, 2023

If there is a place in Paris I really appreciate it isn't Champs-Elysee or Tour-de-Eiffel, it's the Latin quarters. They have a charm and rusticity that many other areas lack. Just going through the romantic streets looking at chocolate in store windows or grabbing a beer/wine at one of the local restaurants or bars is a well deserved break from the otherwise so stressful city.

Paris was fabulous! We stayed in the Latin Quarter and loved the neighborhood feel as well as the location to get to so many of the sights easily. The Cafe’s and bakeries were fun to pop into and very plentiful. The restaurants all served amazing foods!

The heart of this neighborhood was the place of the most important university in Europe during the Middle Ages. The university presence continues into modern times, so it is crowded, full of schools and book stores. Lots of inexpensive places to eat fast food.

We love the Latin Quarter and visit it whenever we go to Paris. It's a microcosm of society and the food choices are literally endless. The name comes, apparently from the fact university people used to communicate in Latin, in older days, like medieval times, so it has stuck. But today it probably owes more to its multiculturalism than anything else. While most of Paris went through a radical transformation and was modernised with wider streets and so on, the Latin Quarter with its narrow alleyways, remained as it essentially was. For that we are probably lucky. It definitely is the place to go to.

You can wander around the narrow streets in the Latin Quarter for quite some time. My favorite thing about this area are the many restaurants and cafes, selling all sorts of food. I tried a fondue place which was quite nice. Great area for a stroll or a quick meal.

We chose a hotel in the Latin Quarter for our first trip to Paris, as it made a fairly central base within walking distance of many of the popular bucket list tourist spots. Full of rich history, bookstores, cobblestone streets, students and tourists alike. You can’t go hungry here - there’s a wide selection of street food, cheap ethnic/student eats, and finer dining. We found so many charming spots and historical sites just wandering on our way to other destinations. Always felt safe even when out and about late at night. You can visit sites like the Pantheon, Musee de Cluny, Shakespeare and Company Bookstore and Notre Dame is just across the Seine.

Several little alley and streets filled with restaurant from all other the world. Life happens at the Latin. Specially during the night. It is a bit crowded, but is a crowd that is there looking for good food and great drinks.
Make sure to stop by at the century old book stores. Also, it is possible to access the Ile de la Cite, where Notre Dame Cathedral is and if you walk the opposite side you will end the up at the Sorbonne a bit more the Luxembourg garden.
Is that amazing that Paris is all very connected? #liveifeasy
Metro stations to access the Latin are: Odeon, Maubert and Jussieu
Enjoy Paris!

We were going to sing in the Notre Dam this June. Since this will not be taking place we are looking at an alternative plan.
A friend suggested that there are spontaneous musical presentations performed in the streets of the Latin Quarter on Sundays before 11 AM.
Has anyone heard of this and have you got any insight to how we can set this up?

A lot of the churches and chapels hold private concerts. You can contact any of them and offer your services. They charge a small fee or it’s free tithe public and they promote the event. I attended at least four of these type events from December through March while I was visiting.

We really enjoyed the Citadines saint-germain-des-prés.
The location is great. Right on the Sein, a 10 min walk to Notre Dame, 15 min to the Louvre.

My daughter and I will be arriving in Paris soon. We will be staying in St. Germain de Pres but would like to spend one evening in The Latin Quarter. Can anyone recommend a restaurant for dinner - preferably with outside dining? Also, what would be the best evening activities for a mother & 20 yo daughter?

Walk down Rue de Buci and look at all places and maybe have a drink, but don't eat. .Rue Le Gregorie is a 1 or two minute walk from the action on Buci, Eat at Citroulle or Breizh on Rue Gregoire.
We spent 12 days in in Paris and by far the best two places we tried. And we know good food...not snails or frogs legs. Inside but look at the menus and in the windows. Just east of Blvd Saint Gemain 1 block.

Latin Quarter is a busy, bustling section of Paris, the area around Sorbonne Uni. There are many hotels here. Typically, room sizes are smaller than in the US or the Middle East, but the rooms are charming. Best of all is the location: minutes away from the Notre Dame with a million things to do and see.
