"The Ballad of Ira Hayes"!!

Somehow finding this album absent from my personal music collection, I was forced to purchase this CD (and thank goodness it was available!) to incorporate "The Ballad of Ira Hayes" into a radio broadcast. Though 'Kinky' did not write this song, his version is hands-down the BEST I've ever heard!! Period. [The song tells the story of Mr. Hayes, of Native American ancestry, who was one of the American Marines photographed raising the US flag over Iwo Jima. That photo was actually a re-creation of the event, done for propaganda purposes, but that's less important than the tragic end to Ira's life after his exit from World War II.] Mr. Friedman is known for humorous (but "biting" in terms of social commentary) ditties like "They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore" (!!), but his approach to "The Ballad of Ira Hayes" is absolutely "straight" and moving. The audio integration of a choir of sorts into the mix is downright exemplary. Your reviewer knows a thing or two about music and the art of recording it, and I declare that anyone interested in a career in audio recording should check out this mix. And that's no joke.
