Las Lomas High School Reviews
Rating 3.9 out of 5 293 reviews
As a graduating senior, I'm thrilled to give it a five-star rating. The school's strength is not just in academics and dedicated teachers but in its commitment to diversity, particularly through the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Club. As a member, I witnessed firsthand the club's dedication to cultural understanding and mentorship, which unites students from MENA backgrounds & beyond. The club's cultural events (Dabke, Nowruz) are campus highlights, offering a taste of MENA heritage and sparking school-wide engagement. Most impressively, the MENA Club's service initiatives and advocacy work support local charities and raise awareness on regional issues. This spirit of inclusivity and compassion is what sets Las Lomas apart, fostering a community that values global citizenship. The impact of the MENA Club has been profound on my personal growth, leaving me with lasting friendships and invaluable life lessons. LL, with its MENA Club, is an institution I wholeheartedly endorse.
Las Lomas never made me feel like I didn't belong, but I also never felt a strong school spirit. The lack of funding that our school receives can make certain aspects of the school seem underwhelming. School activities such as prom or sport events often feel lackluster. The academics, on the other hand, are in my opinion pretty good. There are certain teachers that can be very hard to understand, but overall I feel like I am learning a lot when I go there each day. I would like to see a change to our school's study hall period, because it often feels like a waste of time and I believe that it could be used more effectively.
Las Lomas is pretty much your typical high school. It's definitely one of the better schools in the area, but it isn't exactly the cream of the crop either. In my case, the main grievance I have against them is disability services-- it took two years, a letter from my psychologist I've had since I was young, and at least three meetings before they would even consider giving me a 504 (my grades are "too good" and "I'm not struggling"). When we finally managed to convince them to test me for an IEP, they've been dragging their feet in the process, and it's barely gotten done before the end of the year.
