Some background on my journey and how I got where I am today.
(TL;DR - curiosity, collaboration, resiliency, and a love of shared learning)
Looking back it’s easy to connect the dots that got me where I am today. If you would have asked me that old standby “where do you see yourself in five years?” question along the way, I would have missed each time.
I’ve been fortunate to spend 20 years on the leading edge of all things recruiting, talent, and people. Much of that time was in corporate roles (Ticketmaster, Magento, NPR). Some of it was consulting (SpaceX, Hootsuite, Duo Security, Plaid, Dashlane) through my company I launched in 2013 - Amplify.
I’m a wonk on modern HR and work to accelerate the evolution of people team capabilities and impact through efforts like the HR Open Source initiative I co-founded, regular columns in Fast Company and Forbes, co-authoring Employer Branding for Dummies (Wiley, 2017), the Redefining HR podcast and media series, and talks around the world. I’m also the author of Redefining HR: Transforming People Teams to Drive Business Performance (Kogan Page, January 2021).
I love to build. I’m not usually the person you bring in when everything is smooth sailing and you just need someone to hold the wheel. I know I’m at my best when I’m faced with transformation work and can get creative.
I feel really fortunate that I’m one of those strange people who loves their work. I credit the many mentors who challenged me along the way and taught me what great HR and recruiting can be.
When I’m not doing things related to the above I can be found at my Northern Virginia home where I’m Dad to two wonderful daughters and an amazing wife who reminds me daily what “marrying up” means.
