Almeria

Almeria, who secured their first and only win of the season before the March international break, still have a slim chance of survival, but after this round, it may be over for them. Almeria is currently 17 points behind safety with only six matches remaining. On the other hand, they have accepted their fate, but under Pepe Mel, they may strive not to finish dead last, although overtaking Granada by four points will be a tough task.

Their only victory came unexpectedly in an away game against Las Palmas, one of Pepe Mel’s former clubs, with Leo Baptistao scoring the lone goal on the 14th minute. Almeria suffered a 0-3 loss at home to Osasuna two weeks later but managed a surprising 2-2 draw away to Real Sociedad in early April. Last weekend, Almeria was close to earning points against Villarreal, but the hosts eventually fell 1-2 thanks to Alexander Sorloth’s winner in the 90+2nd minute.

Getafe

Getafe, on the other hand, lack strong motivation and face an uphill battle for a Europa League spot, trailing Betis by eight points. The absence of Mauro Arambarri and Borja Mayoral due to long-term injuries has greatly impacted Getafe’s performance, resulting in only two wins in their last 10 matches. They secured three points at home against Celta Vigo and narrowly defeated Girona before the March international break.

Getafe suffered a 0-1 defeat at home to Sevilla after the break, followed by a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano in an away derby. Last weekend, Jose Bordalas’ side drew 1-1 at home against Real Sociedad. With this draw, Getafe moved up to 10th place, one point ahead of Osasuna, but still far from the Europa League spots.

Almeria – Getafe: Probable Lineups

Almeria will be without center-back Alexandar Radovanovic and forward Luis Javier Suarez due to injury. Gonzalo Melero (last match of four-game suspension) and Largie Ramazani (first of five matches) are also unavailable due to suspensions. Interestingly, both received lengthy suspensions for misconduct. As for Getafe, besides the long-term absentees Arambarri and Mayoral, Juan Iglesias, Domingus Duarte, and Carles Alena are currently sidelined.

Almeria – Getafe: Author’s Prediction

In the first leg, Getafe claimed a 2-1 victory over Almeria, while last season, Getafe suffered two narrow defeats to Almeria. Almeria has nothing to lose, so they may play freely and secure their first home win of the season. Getafe, on the other hand, have no tournament goals and might not be overly concerned about the result. Predicting the outcome of this match is almost impossible, but goals from both sides seem likely. I’ll take the risk and predict that Almeria will not lose, although they usually perform even worse at home than away.
