An ugly reaction to the LaMelo Ball news. I don’t think people realise how challenging dealing with injuries can be as a professional athlete. I understand the frustration, but don’t gear it towards LaMelo Ball personally, it’s a disappointing situation for everyone. – 10:18 AM

LaMelo Ball, who Charlotte announced will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, will have played in 58 games over the last two seasons. Next year’s a big one for LaMelo. – 10:12 AM

LaMelo Ball is officially out for the season per @HornetsPR.
Feels like he could have returned if there was something to play for but the team is understandably taking extra precaution after 2 years of ankle issues.

More on this storyline

In his last public comments, which came four days after what turned out to be his final game of the season, Ball told the Observer he was focused on getting healthy and made that his top priority. “Facts,” Ball said Jan. 30. “That’s pretty much my main thing.” Apparently, his body won’t cooperate to a satisfactory level. “Yeah, it sucks,” said Miles Bridges, one of Ball’s closest friends on the team. “Melo, he loves basketball. He loves playing the game of basketball. If he has an injury that affects him that much, it definitely affects him. Because if he could come out here and play at 80% he would. So, it’s tough having him out. I miss playing with him for sure, but his health is what matters the most.” -via Charlotte Observer / March 28, 2024
And now the next time Hornets’ fans will see him in uniform won’t come until the fall, once again cutting his season short prematurely. “Listen, LaMelo Ball been very diligent about all of his rehab and work and his ankle just hasn’t responded,” coach Steve Clifford said after Thursday’s practice. “So, really it’s just as simple as that.” -via Charlotte Observer / March 28, 2024
To better contextualize its ending, it’s important to recall how Ignite began. The NBA launched the program in April 2020, with a commitment from top-ranked prospect Jalen Green, now the Rockets’ third-year guard who is spearheading Houston’s late-season playoff bid in the Western Conference. Ignite arrived on the heels of former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice leading a group investigation into the underworld of college basketball recruiting — a shadow game that also provoked an FBI probe into sneaker company and agency payola connections within numerous major NCAA programs. The NBA, too, watched a pair of highly touted prospects, LaMelo Ball and R.J. Hampton, depart for Australia’s National Basketball League before they would enter the 2020 NBA Draft. -via Yahoo!
