Mission U gets two great pitching performances to sweep on Day 1

Final score-  Mission University 7, Arlington Baptist University 1   Game 1
Mission University 2, Arlington Baptist University 0   Game 2

Location-  MU (Ozark Mountain Sports Complex) Ozark, Missouri

Springfield, Missouri-  Game 1 came down to two big scoring innings for the Patriots to win, 7-1.  Grant Merryman had a day, going 4 for 4 in game 1, including leading off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field.  Landon Richards followed with a hard single to right field that caused Merryman to hold up. Next up, Trey Mulholland tripled to left-center to score both runners. After a Dylan Blehm walk, Brennan Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Mulholland, 3-0 MU.  Jackson Vestal scattered eight hits over seven innings and was not touched for a run until the top of the seventh inning.  In the meantime, the Patriots had another big inning in the fourth, scoring four more to lead 7-0 at that time.  After one out, Kyle Hill pinch hit for Logan Crum and drew a base on balls.  Grant Merryman picked up a single to move Hill over to second base.  After a second out, Mulholland singled to center to drive in Hill.  Blehm singled up the middle to drive in Merryman.  Montgomery then doubled to right field to score Mulholland.  Blehm, who had moved to third base on Montgomery's double, then scored on a wild pitch.

Highlights-
In game 2 of the series Josh Buxton had the Arlington Baptist Patriots baffled at the plate.  He had a no-no going into the sixth inning.  The team took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Tate Wheeler started the inning off with a double to right field.  Haden Parton sacrifice bunted Wheeler to third base.  Sam Golden then laced a single to right field to knock in Wheeler.  CJ Miser then singled up the middle to move Golden to second base, then moved all the way home on a throwing error by the right-fielder.  Both pitchers had solid innings after the second as the score held at 2-0 for the Buxton one-hitter.  Buxton walked two and struck out 9.
Highlights Up next-  The team hosts Arlington Baptist in another doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, with noon and 2:30 pm start times.
