Packers re-signing LB and special teamer Kristian Welch

The Green Bay Packers are re-signing linebacker and special teamer Kristian Welch. The Wisconsin native announced his re-signing via his official Instagram account.

Welch, 25, signed to the Packers practice squad ahead of Week 1 and was promoted to the active roster in September. He went on to play in 14 games and see 210 snaps on special teams, producing six special teams tackles.

Bringing back Welch provides the Packers with much-needed depth at linebacker — especially with the team’s switch to a 4-3 base defense — and ensures Rich Bisaccia keeps one of his most trusted special teamers.

Pro Football Focus recorded six solo tackles and one assisted tackle on special teams for Welch in 2023. He missed only one tackle and did not commit a penalty while playing snaps on punt coverage, punt return, kickoff return, kickoff coverage and field goal block. By overall grade, Welch was the Packers’ sixth-highest graded special teamer last season.

Welch was one of five Packers players to play at least 200 special teams snaps in 2023.

Welch went undrafted out of Iowa in 2020. He spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, playing 891 snaps on special teams across 43 games.
