Kristian Alfonso on Days of our Lives return: I couldn't leave the audience hanging
When Kristian Alfonso exited Days of our Lives in 2020, fans were worried that they might never see Hope Brady again. Last week the actress returned and Alfonso says there is a big story twist ahead.
Three years after she opted to exit Days of our Lives, Kristian Alfonso (Hope Brady) is back in Salem and fans couldn't be happier.
After 37 years as one of daytime's most beloved and well-known characters, Alfonso left Days of our Lives in late 2020 amid a disagreement about her character's future. At the time, DAYS reportedly wanted to write Hope out for a period of several months before bringing the character back into the fold for what was described as a major storyline.
"It was not something that had ever been discussed, but that's what it was, and to come back in five to six months, or four to five months -- whatever that timeframe was -- I just thought, you know what, it's time to really write a new chapter," Alfonso explained at the time. "I've had an incredible run there. I've had so many amazing friends and memories. I cannot say enough how I'll miss so many people working there and working with them, but they are in my life, and we do socialize, but like I said, I think it's time."
The unexpected exit also meant that Alfonso didn't get an official exit storyline.
Fans were shocked (in the best way possible) when Alfonso agreed to step back into Hope's shoes for the second installment of the DAYS spinoff series, Beyond Salem. It was in that five-episode series that viewers learned that Peter Reckell's Bo Brady was alive and well. Well, maybe frozen and well is a better description.
Turns out, it was Bo's not-as-dead-as-everyone-thought status that helped nudge Alfonso into returning to Days of our Lives.
"I couldn't leave the audience hanging with Bo opening his eyes at the end!" Alfonso told TV Insider. Alfonso also teased that a "very clever twist" is still ahead.
It is still unclear if the current storyline is what DAYS initially had in store for Alfonso back in 2020. We suspect, that with Alfonso back, most fans won't care about that past storyline.
Alfonso made her return on Friday, March 17. The show has now revealed how long Alfonso and Reckell will be back on the show.
